G,Day Massey WV.
Considering the tractor has done less than one hundred hours and after a thorough inspection and measurement , would replacing all three liners with Chinese Parts be a good idea .
Replacing parts for just for the sake of it to me does not make a whole lot of sense or is it The "Challenge" you look forward to!!!

Not all parts are made in China and it's not simply a matter of replacing parts for the sake of doing it. By using the word "challenge" are you trying to imply that you think I'm needlessly replacing parts during the course of my own restoration? If so, think again.

With a machine shop doing the work, from a price perspective at least, it makes sense to only do the one. If I were going to do it myself I'd probably do all three, why not while you have it tore down. I'm a fix it when it's broke kind of guy but to have it tore down would get the best of me. As someone mentioned in an earlier post, would also want to take a look at the valve train, been sitting for 40ish years.
Since he took it to a machine shop, I'm sure they will evaluate it and make recommendations if it needs further repair.

Of course they will, what I'm saying is if I were replacing a sleeve myself and had gone through the work of freeing up two of the three cylinders, and to have broken the lip of the liner off trying to free up a seized piston, I'd be considering replacing them all.

To each their own, there are some things I believe in "fly to fail" and there are some, well, not so much.

Good Morning Mr Kid.

Some folks like to go the other way !!!

G,Day Mr zsink.
Good now you know what you are dealing with Can I suggest especially when you are paying tradesmans rates insist that he uses GENUINE PERKINS Parts ,The little bit extra in cost you will find will make you happy, just the fact that the tractor is kept ORIGINAL is reward in itself.
I am sure you will be happy with the end result.
Best regards .

The fact remains the tractor is not going to be used as the only tractor for farming 100 acres of row crop. Actually it will more than likely never be a much more than a show tractor so as long as it runs most owner would be happy with it. There are kids that first drove 135 MF 40 years ago that will pay $10K for the tractor today.

We now have the FIL 1976 265 MF with 1300 hours and in used condition with OEM rear tires that are really cracked up but it is about as good of a tractor as it was new in 1976.

This barn fine is awesome but in my view too mint to ever start riding down 2" trees with a bushhog. ;)

Modest preventive maintenance and regular use keeps these old tractors running. Mine will never be a show tractor. The tract I'll be taking it to after I put it back together will prove that. I've got some serious bush hogging to do with it. I will however be able to say, it runs good and everything works and all of it is there if every I sell it. - robert

Well I went to the dealer (MF) and they sold me aftermarket parts. I bought 3 piston/ring/sleeve kits with finished sleeves that looks well made. They were made in Turkey. The rings are laser etched and the pistons look to have excellent finish. It was about $90 a hole plus the gaskets. They came with the wrist pins and clips. I'm going to replace them all and I'll have spares if I need them from the originals. The dealership said that they had good success with these parts so I'll take their word for it...
