Massey 1540 Split now won't go togeter

Split a massey 1540 to repair transmission plug. Now tryp to put back together. everything is level, even. rotated flywheel to align splines. Not sure whats hitting, the pilot shaft and hole or the splines. I get it to go
so it almost meets the top studs, about 1.5 inches but won't go further. Spent about 5 hours so far. May have to call in dealer at 100/hr min 4 hrs ouch. all for a 10.00 plug.

Open to any suggestions.

Take a break then go play with it again eventually it will just slip into place.

Do you have boltwith head removed/long studs in the bellhousing to use to help align the two halves?

Is the PTO drive hanging up? I don't know on a Massey but on some others it goes into a splined hub on the fly wheel.

Check if the inner shaft did engage on the splinecoupler in the gearbox ?

Did you adjust your pedal free play to make sure you aren't bottoming out?

Did you use a clutch alignment tool when installing the clutch disc? The hub needs ot be perfectly centered or you will have a lot of issues trying to get it back together.

yes, used long bolts so i could see exactly wher i was off.
