I used my old 4' rotary mower behind my Dad's old 9N, with an overrunning clutch installed.
I did not like it; 1st gear is tall. It felt like I was on a race car if I got the rpm up where it was cutting well.
I understand 8N's have the 4spd with a lower 1st gear than the 9N/2N, and mow better.
I have wondered how a Farmall Super-A would do with a rotary mower on the back. The Farmall-A I had for a while, had a lot better gearing and ground speed control than that 9N. I know the pto shaft might be at a big angle.

a N is good for a 5' cutter.
