Maybe a new truck Ford or Dodge?

What I can add to this.. And its been noted here previously .. Dodge metal is ...well.... suspect at best. Up here in the North East, winter salt will expose weakness in almost anything very quick. Dodges rust far faster and more severely than any other truck on the road up here.. BADDLY .. A friend bought a new 2023 Ram, diesel loaded.. Parked it in his driveway and the acorns dropping on the hood dented it.. While the motor has its fans ..and I believe it is a good power plant...The rest of the truck is not what I would want long term. .. We own 4 or 5 Fords.. I have a 2021 F450 Limited 4x4 .. Truck is absolutely beautiful and a towing beast.. However, It has 15K miles n it and it just ate its 10Speed transmission and it had to be replaced.. Under warranty..but still. For the past 10 or 15 years we have had Fords the reliability has been good with no other significant issues. .. Another F450 I own is a 2017 4x4 V10 Dump Truck.. This truck plows snow and does other light work one day a week in the summer months.. Its got 14K miles on it now.. Im on my 3rd set of manifolds and 2nd set of rotors and pads due to rust. The other parts of the truck.. frame, suspension etc still look as new.

Your friend must suffer with low IQ disease. Who parks a new truck outside under a tree dropping nuts?

Why? I have almost ZERO problems with transmission, rears, body, glass, electronics. Like no problems and this truck is used beyond it’s rated capacity 2-3 times a week for almost 4 years.
Maybe he got a bad one.

Yikes! THAT ain’t good. I heard those Ford 10 speeds were really problematic. IMO, a 10 speed is a waste. Not enough juice for the squeeze. Unnecessarily complicated.

You have replaced THREE sets of manifolds and 2 sets of rotors in 14K miles because of rust and you are saying “Ram has rust problems”….ok….

BY FAR, the worst trucks ate up with rust in the mid Atlantic are GM’s. Ram & Ford not as bad.
I mean rockers, cab corners, pick-up box rear fender wells, shock towers, rusted to hell.
In fact, I have been looking for a 2006-2007 cat-eye Duramax 3500 for years and every one I find is incredibly rusty.

Hey, I got no problem with Ford. Owned a dozen of their trucks, most were diesel. All I can say is they had terrible reliability and repair problems. They were heavy duty, but my Ram is all that and more. Plus I get a Cummins diesel. You dont get one in a Ford.

I’d probably buy one of the GM’s if it would fit in my garage. They are real tall!

My opinion would be the Ford had an edge if rust is an issue with their aluminum bodies. Otherwise everybody would be recommending what they own

It almost sounds like you are in 4500 territory. Ford used to sell one with a pickup bed but a lot of people just get a custom flat bed setup.

This guy does hotshot, for years, with Rams. 3500-4500 and 5500.

440k plus on his '18 4500 when he traded for his '22 5500, he has 172k on it already. He has very little problems and nothing major.

Oh, BTW, I recommend Ram:)

Trees are a fact of life up this way.. Acorns should not dent sheet metal. .Thats just poor design or corner cutting. And yes, 3rd set of manifolds and 2ND set of rotors. They salt and brine the crap out of the roads up here because people need to see black asphalt ..even when its snowing 2" per hour.. Friggin crazy. That mag chloride is brutal on metal. The ford manifolds and studs are notorious for failure. Im told it's due to their large size and heat disbursement ( not even ) across the manifold. .. Anyway, 3rd set. The rotors rust if the truck isn't driven after plowing..which it usually is not. So unfortunately ...They rust and pulse when applying the brakes afterward.

The Cummins motors are bullet proof and the maintenance is simpler.
No, they aren't and the new common rail injection Cummins get poor fuel mileage to boot FYl Cummins casts all their blocks in India and Fords cast theirs at the Cleveland Engine plant in Brookpark, Ohio and Cummins has had issues with their fuel pumps as well. The ceramic followers come apart and then the engine has to have a complete rebuild or a short block because the ceramic follower shards eat the engine up. I'd take a Ford over any Dodge with a Cummins and an Allison. Better put together all around. Not in the market for a 100 grand truck that in reality is worth about 35K maxed out, don't care what make it is. Besides I have my Ford F350 4 door diesel long bed 4x4 with a seriously breathed on 7.3 and a Fords SVO built E4OD that can pull anything I need to pull just fine. Been paid for, for 15 years now. Never seen snow and no rust anywhere. Was offered 35 for it last summer but the guy couldn't swing the 35 cash only so that went down the crapper and I'm glad it did actually as I don't really want to sell it anyway.

No better truck for towing.

The new Ford powerstrokes are extremely high cost for maintenance. The fenders have to be removed to do many services. One of my BILs has one and told me it’s usually close to $1K when he leaves the shop. I have 5 BILs in the ranching business. Slowly they have converted from Ford to Dodge because of the powerstroke maintenance costs. And they spend their days hauling cattle and feed trailers. The Cummins motors are bullet proof and the maintenance is simpler. Yes Dodge did some front end issues and transmission issues; back in the 1990s and early 2000s. Not an issue with the new Rams.
Certainly is an ongoing issue and they just got class action sued for the 'death wobble' and the steering boxes pull off the frame rails due to defective (as in Chinese made Huck bolts. Lets not forget about the leaking rear differentials either that my old employer supplied the cheap steel for that stress cracked when roll formed and leaks gear oil through the stress cracks or the lousy fit and finish on exterior and interoir components, not excusable in a 100 grand truck.

Bottom line us they all suck for 100 grand+ truck that is worth maybe 35 grand tops.

We all have opinions. I have experienced none of those issues with my Dodge and wouldn’t own a powerchoke. My opinion. Your critique of these trucks seems to reflect the 1990-early 2000s models.
