Just dug a huge hole with my 2210 and 210 fel. Started angling down till I had a ramp and kept going. ended up with a ramp down to just over 4 feet deep! the first three feel is black soil,then I hit sticky gooey clay! If i had needed a bigger hole I'd have leveled out at three feet and made a trench. the idea was to make a hole to accept a load of old broken concrete that i had to get rid of. It took an hour to make the hole, and fifteen minute to fill it with rock. Impressive machine?

It was so much fun I didn't remember to take any pictures. it sure was a mess to get that sticky clay off the bucket though. It was a funny feeling to drive down into a hole like that, the exhaust echoing in the hollow earth, the surface coming to the steering wheel on the sides. Filled over the hole yesterday, more fun. Now I get to till and seed.

You've inspired me. Next week (when my toothbar comes) we're replacing 20 feet of sidewalk with pavers, and need 2 yards of dirt to level the ground. I've already picked out the spot for the hole. The dirt will come from the hole, and the concrete and a pile of ash from a burn pile we've been trying to get rid of for 10 years will fill it. 3 birds with one stone!

We agonized about the money for the 2210, wondering how we would ever justify it. After a month of ownership, we have already done "dreamed of" landscaping jobs that would have cost us thousands to have somebody else do. Well, they're done, and I even got to drive!

I'll see if I can take some pics when I replicate yer hole.

You got it. littletractor CAN pay for itself. Oh, and yes, the extra dirt left over after I filled the hole with rocks came in real handy. What does a toothbar help with exactly? Once I broke through the hard dry top it was no problem, the black stuff scooped up real easy.

You guys are too funny! My family and friends our right; I plunked down 30,000$ Canadian dollars for my 2210, snow blower, mower, FEL and backhoe and it's just a darn big toy. It's my grown up tonka toy. I'd switch for a larger property just so I can have an excuse to use it some more! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Maybe I'm slow tonight, but I'm not sure what your answer meant? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif What I'm referring to, is, is the 2210 capable of breaking up the concrete at the expansion joints, or should I be renting a backhoe (after hearing about some of your difficulties with the Woods units, I'm not sure I want to spend the $ on the first generation units)? BTW, I estimate each section should weigh ~ 400 lbs, so that's not in question. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My intention is to break the sidewalk up into reasonable sized chunks with a sledgehammer, and then use the teeth on the bucket to pry up under the edge. If it won't break in place, my fallback plan is to pry up whole slabs and hammer them while they're leaning on the bucket. I've never done this particular job before, but I think it will work fine.

The toothbar is shipping Tuesday from Markham, so I'm hoping it will arrive in time to start the job during the long weekend.
