"Play it again, Sam" was the title of a Woodie Allen movie which came out decades later.

I was in grade school when our family watched the movie, My Fair Lady, which also says dam*.

I later on got in trouble in school for repeating the word. I honestly had no idea it was profane.

That's funny! Same happened to me, only the word was C***sucker. Dad said it all the time; so it must be OK. I actually thought it was a bird of some kind, like a sapsucker!
