Maybe 5 years ago we did a road trip to the midwest, saw one and decided to see what it was all about (had read about it here). Basically a Lowes except it seemed to be a bit more targeted towards women.
Except they have a drive through yard for lumber, sheetrock, mulch etc which is a big deal if your buying anything in quantity.

I live halfway between two Menard's - about 40 minutes either way. I shop there often.

One weird thing about their store layouts. The two stores are laid out the same, but the plans are FLIPPED. If you use the correct "my store", the app picks the right aisle. I have to remember which one I'm going to, to quickly find my item(s).

I am a big Menards fan ! Menards is usually cheaper plus they usually have the 11% rebate deal going. Bought a new jacket a couple days ago, it would have cost $44 but my previously earned rebates paid for it. If I have a question about something it’s usually pretty easy to find a employee that knows the answer, if the first person I ask doesn’t know they can usually find someone that does pretty quickly.

We've got the largest Menard's store in the chain on the south side of our town. They had one that was too small. When K-Mart closed, they bought the old K-Mart property, knocked it down and built the new one. I like going to the lumber counter, getting a printed list of everything I want, go to the front, pay for it, then drive around back and pick what I want from the list in the drive-through lumber barns.

I bought my whole garage addition from them. I had them deliver the trusses. Everything else came home in the Suburban or on the car hauler trailer.

Plus... on the way out I sometimes pick up one of these...

I get all my starting batteries there because they meet my rule with flooded cell batteries and that is high turnover. Exception being the Group 31's that I use in the tractors, get them at the local truck dealership I retired from because they also have a high turnover rate.

My wife likes to 'nebbish' in the food freezers when we are there as well. They have the really good Hormel frozen boneless pork chops we like. Get all my furnace filters there as well. Like the 11% rebate thing as well. Stores are always clean and tidy too, unlike Home Despot where they are unkept and no sales people to assist you. Same applies to Lowes which is why we mostly do Menards. Besides, the 11% rebate more than offsets the sales tax.

Mid 90's Home Depot started to appear in this area. Menards took the threat seriously and really upped their game. They were pretty crappy before, but they expanded stores, started stocking better quality stuff and improved service. Overall they are significantly better than HD around here.

The only mistake they made was moving the building materials order counter from the front to the back. It really p's off the contractors who now have to waste time walking to the back of the store vs the quick in and out they could do before. The counter guys say they hear about it all the time, but still no change on that issue from corporate. I assume it is like how milk and eggs are in the back of the grocery store to get you to walk all the way through and buy more stuff. But that's not really a contractor on a mission during a job...

I was used to one store and was on autopilot at a different store using the restroom. I thought it was odd there were no urinals until I realized I had walked into the women's restroom. Oooops. Good thing nobody was in there. 😆

Am I the only one who has been wondering around Menards for years trying to find a particular item when its location was always at my fingertips?

Just found out today that if you click the aisle location for an item on the web or app it brings up a store map showing where that aisle and item is located within the store. Hopefully the rest of you that have a Menards figured that out way faster than me.
