Mesh vs Wood Floor

/ Mesh vs Wood Floor #12
Everyone i know that has a mesh floor, promply covered it in 3/4 plywood. which leads me to wonder... why not just a wood floor to start. (cause most of the trailers in the TSC parking lot are mesh floor)

Instead of 3/4" plywood, I used 1/4"; lighter and cheaper. The mesh won't rot like wood if the trailer is left out on the weather all the time, and the plywood would be much easier, and cheaper to replace than the usual trailer floor boards. I applied a coat of sealer to both sides of the plywood before putting it on the trailer and put a few bolts through it with big washers on the bottom side to hold the plywood in place.

Mesh bends easily and is also limits hauling stuff like rocks, soil, dirt, ect.

My vote is wood.

Chris
My experience also. The mesh bent after a time of just hauling lawnmowers and a motorcycle once or twice. This was in a 5x8 Tractor Supply special.

I have a 5x8 mesh trailer and a 16 foot wood trailer. Both have their advantages. The little mesh trailer weights very little and I use it to haul 3 dirt bikes. The mesh floor is great because my muddy bikes don't dirty the floor of the trailer. I sometimes run them through a quick car wash on the way home as well and let the mud fall through the trailer. The disadvantages have been mentioned.

I like the idea of 1/4 inch plywood over the mesh. Low weight with the advantages of wood. I considered 3/4 inch ply, but the 1/4 may be a better way to go.

Might as well go with 1/2" as they make an exterior grade of 1/2" but not 1/4". I've left 1/4" ply outside and it will disintegrate in less than a year garenteed.

The mesh gate om my wood floored traler is trashed, the bed is solid as the day it came home 4 years ago.
Besides, there is not a thread here called "Tractors and Mesh, Show us your Pics" ;)

The expanded metal floors in the these little trailers would not be as bad if they used a heavier expanded metal and or closer crewmembers.
