Metal Roof Question

   / Metal Roof Question #121
I've used the cement as liquid band aid.

Used to do that when i was working in HVAC. We were replacing furnaces (gas with AC coils) and I frequently got nailed by the fins on the coils, so I would dribble a little on the cuts to seal them up.
Hurt, but less than getting them infected.

Well if your using the cement for a band aid, (I've never tried it myself, but might sometime now) why not use the purple primer as the disinfectant/ antiseptic. Couldn't hurt any more than that stuff my mother would put on our wounds, Merthiolate

Man that stuff was worse than the original pain of the wound, especially cruel was that little applicator stick, to prod the sensitive area :(
The only good thing is it dramatized the look of a minor cut to look like a more serious injury, like the way we would wrap ourselves in ace bandages to look like the Mummy

The ingredients aren't much better than the purple primer. You'd need an MSDS with it if it were still available today.

Since we are way off track///Neither primer or glue....PEX for me !

I'm not ready to embrace that yet for water in my house.

I have used a similar product for compressed air in my shop with no problems.

I'm pretty sure that is an acurate statement :)

I used to do all my own stuff, but I have gotten to the point that I would rather just pay to have some things done. Roofing being a big one. I have a couple of local guys, that I consider my friends. I call them, have them look it over, get a rough number and generally just tell them to do it. And in today's economy, I feel it is my christian duty to help my neighbor's.

Not really.....have you bought any copper pipe lately??

No copper but have sold scrap in the last 18 months!! It was $3/lb then so if your buying im sure its in the $6lb range!!!

I was thinking more along the lines of Cpvc myself. But compared to copper im sure its way cheaper. I also know some areas make copper or Pex the code and dont allow pvc or cpvc for some reason.

I have seen the pex tubing in homes but never pvc for pressurized potable water. Don't know if code doesn't allow around here.

One huge old house, they re-plumbed the entire house with pex and one thing I liked about it was there is a main distribution manifold with shut offs for each branch, reminded me of an electric panel where you could turn off any circuit from one place.

I think I heard they have some type of protective feature where if a line burst, some kind of valve is actuated to stop the flow. Similar to a propane regulator, senses full flow and stops it. I'm not positive about this, but I think that's what I heard, it would be a good idea.

I think you can use the cpvc for pressure water? NOt sure i know in my county youcan use it for water. I live in the town limits and there are no permits or building codes that are enforced.

Can you go from CU to pex, i imagine there is a way just a sweated joint then a pex connector. I am redoing a bath. All the lines are moving and this would eliminate all the joints i would have to make i just started thinking about this?
