Just noticed that I lost a grease fitting from a deck spindle on my BX2200 60 inch deck. I'm pretty sure there are two types of fittings, tapered (pipe thread) and straight (machine thread), and I think it's the latter. Does anybody know if there are metric and english sizes for these, and which it might be? I stole a fitting temporarily from the loader, but it wouldn't go in more than 1/2 turn (it's tapered, and/or different thread). Hopefully, I didn't strip the threads.

The other spindle fitting was quite loose, so check the tightness of your fittings!

Thanks,
- Patrick

Don't know, but...

Kubota would most likely be metric. Could be standard if made in the US. Try a regular bolt in there (gently) or take one of the other fittings out and thread a nut onto it.

I had a grease fitting come off my Kubota MMM. When I went to the local discount store, the metric fittings I purchased did not have the same thread. Next time I was at dealer I got the correct metric fittings. There is a fine and course thread fitting. The grease fittings on my Kubota were fine thread.

Metric grease fittings can be a bit hard to find. I had a bad one on my LA402 loader/B2910, and just swapped a couple of them around temporarily. Then, I found a set of 32 asst. sizes from Harbor Freight for $3.95, and it had two of the size I needed. I would suggest everyone consider such a set, as the cost of buying 1 Zerk, plus the runaround time, makes these assorments a bargain. www.harborfreight.com.

Japanese and European metric thread pitches can be quite different - as can bolt head and nut sizes. For smaller cap screws - 6, 8 10 12 mm, the Japanese use a standard 1.25/mm thread pitch while the European standard will vary from 1.25/mm to 1.00/mm, increasing pitch with bolt diameter. But I have also seen both the Europeans and Japanese use different thread pitches for different aplications, amounting to something like the SAE UNC and UNF distinctions, but not entirely the same. Another example of a difference is that the standard European head and nuts size for an 8 mm bolt is 13 mm while the Japaense standard is 12mm.

My point is that it is quite possible that the thread pitch on European and Japanese grease fittings may be different but I haven't run into that problem - I guess I should say yet!
