Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

So far I've lifted the front only twice from catching a small elm or a shallow stump. I've started using it more for cleaning an area more so than up rooting things. Once I get the big stuff moved I can go in with the mower.

This is almost the same angle as the previous after mowing. You can see the pile of brush to the right.

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

But it is fun to take down a tree. This is a 3" oak that was near my pond that's about to be widened (another post to come). I popped the roots on both sides and simply pushed it over. I know, all sand and no rocks, but it's still makes you feel big.

Kind of like a mini version of one of Eddie Walker's toys...

Last shot. Pull forward and back under the root ball.

Thanks for looking.

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

Great work Tom! The 135 is a strong tractor and when your familiar with its ability and have a good sense of how to use it , You can do things with it that may surprise even yourself... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I guess that can be said about any tractor /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

But having used My 135 for 12 years prior to getting the 1433v with a loader alot of times I would just use "Old reliable" because of the comfort level and knowledge of its ability to perform that certain task, sometimes having to force myself to use the new tractor /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif which is sized about the same but a very different feel.

I have since gotten more used to it an now the 135 does a lot of sitting waiting to be run or restored or heaven forbid sold... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif for lack of use or time for restoring, but not just yet

SO you just keep working that puppy the way she likes it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

I believe my neighbor has the rattiest, uncared for, poorly maintained MF 135 in existence. Has an external spring with bailing wire between the seat and PTO lever to hold the PTO engaged and a piece of bailing wire on the lift handle to hold it in place but that puppy just keeps on going.

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

Have you thought about getting a rental? (say a JD 310 or equivalent) ... a grapple rake (and the backhoe+thumb for bigger stuff) should make short work or your job. (probably a week or so would be my guess). Probably around $1000 (with delivery).

The wear tear on the MF (and you) may make it attractive. Would hate to see the MF break (and the repair bill eat the $$$). After the major work is done, then the MF can go back to work for the rest of the prep.

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

That's going to take a while there. You should have posted earlier. With 15k in dozer work your sort of already behind the 8 ball. $15k would have bought you a real nice 350 or 450 size dozer. If you have a lot left to clear buying a dozer isn't out of the question. Just don't tear it up and you'll get most of your money back. I'm talking keeping it for a year or 2. With the yaupon a HD brush cutter will clean that up. You can keep it mowed and the staubs will die out in a year or so and come to the top. We had a simular situation except the small trash trees were elms. Those suckers are hard to get up. Where about are you near Huntsville? We shoot right up 19 on the way to our place in Elkhart(Riverside, Trinity, Lovelady, Crockett, Grapeland, Elkhart).

In the pics is my brother in laws 60's model JD350 Crawler (before the 350b). Slow with weak power and steering clutches but it did make it easier and cheaper.

First Look
After a day of dozer work

We did all the house without pro help. I have about 20k in the house and garage. The 20x24 garage my sone and I built in 2004. 4k complete.
The Elkhart house story

Be sure to take tons of pictures, same angles, etc. You'll regret later. It's a lot of fun.

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

Believe me, I wish I would have gone the dozer route. When I got the first 10 I never thought I would be buying more neighboring land that would need clearing. I'm about halfway between Huntsville and Madisonville about 5 miles west of I-45. I've got tons of before and after pictures over the past 5 years but I just need to get them in order before posting.

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

Nice project and photos! Really nice land! My old man used to have a MF 135 diesel with a Freeman FEL and that was the best tractor! I was little then but I sure wish it was still around, I don't know what he did with it.
