Oil & Fuel MF 1540 Oil Filter

Fleetguard is top of the line. Thats what I run on on all my trucks, and even better you can get the at your local AGCO/Massey dealer. However when I checked price the OEM filter was $1 cheaper, not that price should have anything to do with it. And yes anything to do with Cummins has got to be good! ( maybe biased due to owning 4 Cummins powered Dodges)

I'm a firm believer in Fleetguard filters to. I have worked in the heavy truck/tractor repair industry for many years and Fleetguard and Caterpillar are the best filters I ever ran across. I buy all my Fleetguard filters from RyderFleetProducts: Aftermarket Truck Parts, Semi Truck Parts, Heavy Duty Truck Parts . They may not have your filter in stock since they sell commercial truck repair parts but they can order anything Fleetguard sells.

you want to be careful about using "aftermarket" filters on your new massey ferguson tractor. if you had a problem and were not using OEM service items (ie: lubricants & filters), you could run into a warranty issue. protect yourself and your tractor, along with supporting your local dealership by using genuine Massey Ferguson service parts.

I do believe in supporting the local dealer, over someone else. However, as long as the quality is the same, they cannot deny warranty work becuase you did not use their filters/oil. The Magnuson-Moss warranty act states that if they tell you that you have to use a certain brand of something, then they must supply it for free.

MF filters are not low quality crap, so I would use them over anyone else, plus it supports the local dealer.

JMHO.

Almost True, The Engine Oil Filters Are Different Between The 1533 & 1540, The Hyd., Fuel & Air Are The Same But The 1533 Take The Samller Oil Like All The Small Frame Compacts.

Don't know all the details with the 15-series tractors but my 1433V has the same number oil filter you specified for the 1540 (Agco 3757038M2). What's wierd about your comment that the 1533 takes a smaller filter relates to what the aftermarket filters call out for my 1433V; they specify a smaller filter as well. I stopped at the NH dealer because I drive by it every day and my MF dealer closes too early for me to make it there after work and it's a pain for me to run out there on a Saturday morning to buy parts when I could be doing work. Anyway, the NH dealer looked up my 1433V and ordered a filter forme which came in the next day. I went out to the barn and lo and behold it's way too small. This time I went to the trouble of getting a flashlight and crawled under to see the actual number on the filter. Sure enough, it's the one you posted for a 1540 and it is definately larger than the one the aftermarket catalog calls for. I checked the Wix filter site and they had the same number called out for the too small filter the NH dealer got for me... Looks like I have to take a ride Saturday morning to my Massey dealer...

DMF... I just wonder if that is the difference between the 1540 and 1533 filters, size... As you said it was way to small the one you got, so I am wondering if gasket and thread pitch is the same... If that would be the case, I will have to check this out and if all is good, but just a bigger filter then the 1540 filter will be on my 1533 on my next oil change.

Just for the record, a oil filter from MF for a 1533 is #72201898 (well that is the one I got anyhow and looked the same all around as the one I took off)

Well, I didn't pull the filter that is currently on the tractor off to check as it looked like this smaller one wasn't going to work; it was much shorter in length and the diameter was smaller as well. The larger one that's currently on is the same size it has always had as I have previously used MF (AGCO) filters since day one.

Understood... Things could still be the same at the contact point and threads, even if the filter is bigger in case diameter, just something to check out. Thanks

They are the same. I have used both. It is the internal specifications that are the most different.

Well, I think I'll just wait until Saturday to get the larger of the two from my dealer. To me, the larger one is small enough (if you know what I mean) I'd hate to go smaller...
