So today a local farm equipment mechanic stopped by because he'd heard about my tractor problem from my neighbor. He had me run the story by him, started tractor, shifted, he checked stuff and he concluded, pretty sure, a broken shift fork with the broken piece jamming it up. He recommended removing top cover of tranny, confirm or not if that's the case. If so then complete repair would require splitting tractor. I asked if I found a busted chunk of shift fork, could get it out and free things up, would the tractor be operational just minus a gear. He thought possibly if the fork busted off high enough, if it busted off way down there the left over fork might interfere with stuff. I asked if that's the case couldn't I just get something and bust some more off so there's nothing left to be in the way. He laughed, "You'll have to eat your Wheaties first." I don't farm, this tractor is for snow removal and moving gravel around. I've never used any gears but 1st and reverse/high or low. The only time I used any other gear was when I drove it home when I got it, about two miles on the road. If I can go forwards and backwards it will do everything I need it to here. Is this possible?

Fix it right. Those old tractors can be split and put back together in a few hours. Go ahead and replace the clutch.
