MF Dealerships - What's the Deal?

Thanks everyone; some good info. I went to the Wallace equipment online site and it certainly looks like a nice store. It's about 90 minutes north of my place but probably worth the drive to go browsing. I was finally contacted by the closest MF dealer's wife. She apologized for them not getting in touch with me and said their saleman would contact me soon.
I agree, I should take my wife along to sit in the seat and see what she likes. She is a lot smaller than me and so size and layout might be a factor. Bigger isn't always better; she has to be able to reach the controls.

Thanks again guys.

Did you try Turner Tractor in Evans City, PA (about 25 minutes north of Pittsburgh)? I purchased my GC2410 there and they were very helpful.

Turner Tractor, Inc., Mahindra, Massey Ferguson, Tractors, Tractor, Evans City, Pennsylvania,

I'm guessing some of these dealers set up websites that include links for quotes and email contact, but then they don't keep up on it for one reason or another. I had similar issues when shopping around in the area. I tried to get a response via email from a local JD, MF, and Kubota dealer through their websites and I never heard back from any of them, so I was a little p-o'd at the time. It is unfortunate for people in a situation like your's since you can't make it to the dealership. It's not good for business, but it just might be what is happening (or the dealers feel like they make enough money and don't want your's )

Regarding prices and the GC2400,

If this helps, this week I purchased a GC2400 with a 60 inch mid-mount mower from Smith Equipment in Warrenton, Virginia. I was already partial to the dealer and MFs as I've used both before. (I have a 1959 MF Gas 65 that I'm using on 45 acres in Culpeper County, Virginia. Bought that tractor a couple years ago, and they've kept it operational.)

Massey (AGCO) is offering through, at least the end of the month, 0% for 72 months, or a free loader or mower if paid in cash (or other outside financing such a credit union loan if you have access to one.)

I went with the cash option - the total price for the GC2400, 60 inch mid-mount mower, front end loader, filled rear wheels and full fuel tank, and delivery (20 miles) was $13,248.50.

In other words, roughly the price of high end Deere riding mower. I would have loved to get something bigger, but I've already got the MF 65, which still won't die. And, my wife has offered to help if she has hydrostatic transmission and mid-mount mowever.

It arrived today, and I'm totally satisfied - except for the fact my 3-year old wouldn't let me use it. However, he did have fun with the loader.

P.S. The only drawback so far is that lawyers got involved somewhere and I'm going to need a tie to disengage some safety device under the seat that cuts off the PTOs and engine if you are not sitting on the seat. (While mowing , I like to stand to look for debris or stretch.) Also, I'm thinking of getting a PTO generator at some point.

David

I'm not sure if there is a PX near your firebase, but they are worth a shot if you can find one. They help sort through not paying all the taxes, etc. When I was in Vietnam, many married, and single guys ordered cars through the PX, and had them delivered for when they were getting home. Best of luck, and thanks for your service!

I understand the need for safety devices but it would be nice if we could be treated as adults and be given a choice. For example, my John Deere 325 riding mower allows me to turn off the kill switch for mowing in reverse (a blue light would then come on on the dash).

I was a volunteer fireman/EMT back in the 70's and early 80's and we responded to enough calls for farmers with legs or arms wrapped around their PTO shaft that I am all for making sure you cannot get out of your seat when that is running but like you said, if you want a PTO driven generator or wood pellet mill you need to be able to run it dis-mounted.

Lawyers! Every culture must have its demons I suppose.

Hi Chuck, thanks. Yes, AAFES still has a car and Harley Davidson sales program and just like back in your day our service members can buy a car when in Iraq or Afghanistan. I think it is the first shop they set up when the dust settles down. It would be nice if they also sold tractors! But I don't think there are enough country folk in the service to justify that. Too bad, the tax break would be great.

I visited my oldest son (who is also a Soldier) at Fort Campbell a couple months ago and there is a chain store called Rural King out there. They offered the GC2400 with turf tires for $9,999 and the GC2600 for $11,000. If I would have had a way to get it home I would have bought it on the spot. The nearest Rural King to my home is in Ohio but then I would have to rent a trailor and that would kill my savings.
