That reminds me, can someone post a pic of the hydraulic quick disconnects on the rear of the tractor? My one hose/connector is just hanging there and I need to figure out a way to mount it so I can actually connect things when I need to. :)

I would gladly, however I have no rear remotes on my machine. You have a diverted valve off the cap for the stand pipe? If you snap a pic of what you have we could probably help devise a system to secure it.

A few notes about the air cleaner. Some years ago I noticed the air cleaner dripping oil. I disassembled it and found a pinhole in the cup. Repaired it with epoxy and went on my way.

Now it's leaking again so I took the cup off and gave it a swim in the parts washer. This is what it looked like after that.

Not bad. One big hole to fix, right? Then I held it up to the light

That doesn't look good. I checked ebay and found aftermarket cups pretty cheap. It may be the wrong color but the problem is solved.

Shaeff, I have the radiator installed and this is what it looks like right now. I've also included a picture of the pump drive shaft.

Next I'll be putting the hood on and then working on the wiring for lights. I'll take more pictures as I go.

With old beasts like these, I feel it's much better to have a good working machine than worry what it looks like! Definitely better to put a good cup on the bottom of that air filter.

If the o-ring ever fails under your power steering reservoir, I've found a good way to remove it. There is one bolt in the bottom, but once you remove it the reservoir is still held in place by the center suction piece that's screwed firmly into the pump housing. The suction piece has a hole drilled cross-ways through it (parallel to the ground), I found that if you insert the 90* section of a large (i used 6mm) allan key, then use a 6mm socket wrench on the other end of the allan it'll come out with no problems at all. I don't know of any other way to get it out, but that's what I came up with and it worked a treat.

So the pump mounts on that large cast boss? I wonder why mine is mounted so far outboard? I'll have to snap a pic of that for you. I have a very similar loader frame to yours, but my pump is mounted on the OUTSIDE of the loader frame, completely vulnerable to anything that may roll down a rock pile and bash into it. I wonder why mine's mounted all the way out there with a long splined shaft?

I should figure a way to properly mount it, then encase it in steel to protect it from brush, sticks, rocks, etc... when working the machine. Thanks for the pics!

Yep, it mounts right there. We put the hood on today for the first time in two years. After I replaced the radiator with a new one back then, the hood didn't quite fit so we just left it off. Today we used a grinder to remove some metal and make everything fit. I'll post a pic of the front end as soon as I can. The pump mount is slightly recessed below the grill. Post of pic of yours - I am curious.

Thanks for the power steering tip. I have been losing fluid forever and am not sure if it leaks out the reservoir cap or if it's leaking into the motor or something. This time I made yet another gasket for the PS reservoir cover. Do you know what seals your cover?

Very interesting, I'll definitely have to investigate this further. I always thought my pump looked like an afterthought in its current location.

Must be nice to have the hood back on!

I'll snap a pic of mine tomorrow afternoon. My power steering reservoir has a very thin rubber seal at that's stuck to the lid. When I got my machine the steering took all I had to turn, I took the reservoir lid off and thought an easy fix to just put fluid in it. When I started to fill, it ran right out the bottom as fast as I could put it in!

Getting closer. Hood is installed and loader main arms are mounted.

Very nice, I really love the style of these old machines! All progress is good progress! It's POURING rain here so no machine work for me today!

Here are pics of my hydraulic pump, the plate that the pump is bolted to is actually bolted to the loader frame as well. Looks like a home made job to me, but who knows!

That's a good point. I have never changed the oil in the loader. When you say mineral hyd oil, you mean the loader should use the same oil that's in the transmission/3pt lift?

No, the transmission and 3PT use SAE90 or SAE80/90 gear oil. A suitable alternative is UTI (Universal Tractor Oil).

Checking around, I've found it appears guys are using several different oils - mostly ATF type 3 - which is what I'm also using.

Here's a link to a thread from last year on this exact point - albeit for a Davis 102 loader, but the pumps for the hydraulic systems are of the same characteristics.

Kenneth S seems to know more than me. In post 2, he states they need a hydraulic oil that meets MF Spec M1110.
In post 5 MF Workbull tells us his manual calls for "good ole ATF". Works well for me too, although I'd advise to not use synthetic ATF.
