Where do I begin.....
Best tires I've ever owned. But what about FLOOR JACKS?

One of the mechanics in our shop has a jack for sale. It's a 7000lb MICHELIN floor jack. Same brand, same logo. PROBABLY made by someone else for Michelin. Very well made. It looks very simular to a Walker jack I have at home.

Anyone familiar with Michelin jacks? It's almost new, and he's selling it (probably to me) for $50.

A 3 1/2 ton Michelin jack for $50. Sounds like he bought it at Sams club. That's where I bought mine. I think it was $65 brand new.

They did not have a display model, only the boxed jacks, but the price was right, and I relied on the Michelin name. They wouldn't sell their name or sell low end products themselves, would they. Right? Wrong.

It is slightly cheesier than my 3 1/2 ton Larin, but at least the Larin stores with its handle vertical. The Michelin's handle won't reach vertical, so it makes it a pain to park somewhere. Like every Chinese jack that I have seen, it lacks fine control, and it is difficult to ease the vehicle down.

The (only) good news is that it comes with a nice rubber pad for the lifting cup.

For $50, if you need a 3 1/2 ton jack, and Chinese cheap is OK with you, and you have room to park it, then why not? You would probably have to pay more at Harbor Freight.

That might explain why I haven't seen 'em for sale. I can't say I've ever been in a Sams Club even though there's one just up the road from the office.

I bought the jack. And like the little kid I am, it has already jacked my truck up 2 times :D

Seems to be a good, solid product. I needed a second jack to help when splitting tractors. This'n aughtta do just fine

That would be it. Anyone thinking of running out and buying one can take a look and see if that handle angle would be a problem for them.

I had a shopjack contact in Memphis a while back.... Sold and servied floor jacks....

i thought mine had been stolen some time ago and contacted him for a new american made one as its the one tool i didnt want chineese (i had an old american made one) as i know how valueable a good floor jack is.

i was very dissapointed to find that there was not a single US jack made anymore, and that they were all chinese these days.... but he sold me the version he sells to most service shops for $100.

I will say i am happy with it.

a viking 2.5 ton

Angle of the handle doesn't much matter. Where I store my other jack is UNDER a workbench, rolled in from the end. Handle will lay almost flat while stored. It's already sitting next to the Walker jack. Fits OK.

I have a Walker floor jack that was a BUNCH more expensive. I needed a #2 for splitting tractors. This one will do just fine.

I ended up buying a few more tools from the same guy. Got a 9 piece Snap-On screwdriver set for $30. Also a Fluke multi-meter for $35. The screwdriver set cost more originally than I paid for all of it, so I'm happy.

Does it work?

Yep! Came with case, long leads, alligator ends, and a new battery. I already had one IDENTICAL to it. Mine was $209, 2+ years ago. My son keeps wanting to borrow mine. I'm going to let him have this one "at cost". ;)

Why would anyone let one go for that price?

well no.... but seriously.....

Ive bought plenty of tools off of craigslist for "unbelievely" good deals....
-In my experience its been guys who need cash for something and dont really care.
-They got it on trade for some other service and they dont care.
-some ex-wife is cleaning out the garage and doesnt care.
-some one is cleaning out the recently died relitives ______ and doesnt care

For instance.... I aranged to buy a motor from a guy that had pulled it out of his 4runner (i needed a core to rebuild) For $150... when i got to his place he had a second lying in a corner... he says... you want a second.... I say... how much... $50 if you take it today... then while we are loading that one up... and stepping over the A340H trans (from the same truck) he says... you want the trans? I ask... does it work? He says, worked fine when i pulled it... what happens if i dont take it? He points to his scrap pile and says... goes there... I said.. in that case... toss it in the back...

Why? Because that's what I offered. He was letting things go cheaper as the sell off went along. No one else seemed interested. I already have one, and didn't want to invest much for a 2nd one.

This guy has worked for us a little over 4 years. Since day 1, some of us have been after him to get back in school. He's moving back to Michigan where his parents live, and getting himself ready for school after the first of the year. All of us who bought tools know they weren't stolen. We know the seller and know what he's doing this for.

That's why.
