Start of the foundation prep. Removal of the patio slab. Took awhile, pounded through with a pneumatic air hammer and then took pieces out by using the skid steer bucket pressure to pop out large pieces.

The guys found some unexpected blowout from the original build you can see in the pictures. First used the cutoff tool then moved to the jack hammer... Tested how solid the house was no rattling at all within the upper structure/windows, even though the foundation was all connected throughout. Rather amazed. These guys were pros - not one accidental touch by any of the equipment to the beams, ceiling, etc. The excavator and Pete were one...

Back to it, we moved in over the last week to our new addition and had some projects that kept me away from posting... This series of photos has to do with he foundation prep and pour. Got the concrete poured just before the winter freeze so we could continue and close it in before the first snow...

Oops... look like you posted the thumbnails. ...or did I do something wrong? :ashamed: The first 3 were fine, the rest are thumb size.

teg, that is odd, maybe it has to do with file size, or number of pics. I didn't upload differently but see what you are referring to. I'll make sure to preview and test images on further posts. Thanks on the heads up.

Moving upstairs, removing the internal windows in the external stairwell. The windows were over 600lbs a piece and two guys moved them with suction cups. The smaller window cracked during pulling it out. Rather scary as if they broke could have done real damage... That happened when they put in the original windows one broke and cut my uncle's forearm pretty severely and got rushed to the ER... The gentlemen handling the window certainly understood the danger and took care of business. The dumpster has the results of one - hit the bottom and blew up.

Next shots are busted up lightweight concrete to get to the floor panels and cutting out the opening for the stairwell. You can see the shims and original 2x12's resting on the steel beam (note the small shim .. it is sitting on)..

Also there is a picture of how the steel stairs were connected to the steel, then stucco'd over.

The first two photos are of the new tub... Best price at Home Depot even with the truck rental. Thought I'd be smart and throw it on the carry all and bring it downstairs using my helper... note the pushed back angle, I just about lost it coming down the hill as it caught a corner on a .5" stalk of brush that held it up...lost a little bit more hair on that one.

The next photo shows we were on dumpster #3...guessing we'd go 2x budget on dumpsters - we did.

Must have taken 200 photos of the framing. Not being skilled in carpentry, I found the joints, etc. very interesting.

The next dumpster shot is a reminder to me of how many folks are suffering, we had no less than 6 sets of folks looking to scavenge the dumpster for anything metal, anything of resale value, and anything that allowed the observation of the property. One guy that was honest took away 4 old steel beams that were to be for a garage back in the day. The others were told to get lost or the dogs, police, or variety of guns at the property would be the next thing they saw due to rudeness, matter of fact bluntness and thought they could trespass in plain sight, etc.

The next photo shows a close up of one of two bb gun holes in the side window. I recall my dad using every curse word in the book the day he found those, no it wasn't from my doing - never did find out how/who that happened. I had the window company that removed the stairwell window wall move two of them to the two side windows that had these issues. We'll replace them at some point but could not swing it in the Phase 1 budget.

The next few show more framing and the temporary stairs - which were sweet so I could go examine the handiwork from inside vs going out and around in the cold. Note in the upper shot of the stairs the interior window wall.. Our architects had in the plan to leave these to leave the sitting area separated and cozy..but the shape of the windows and the end finish of how it would look started grating on us... and asked the GC what would it take to take those out and make it all open? Since no wall was load bearing it cost $170 the labor of the window glass company guys to take them out, and haul them out to the dumpster, nice....

Some more framing pictures, a snowstorm that blew in and the start of plumbing. Also of note is concrete floor failures that would be a pain in rear later on. Not sure what the multiple two by fours above the bathroom plumbing was for, thought maybe to stop nailing or to mount something but it is too low for that...good thing I looked at that as I forgot about the two copper pipes going vertically and I was about to hang a mirror that we liked but the GC said couldn't be mounted...will be my first attempt at making a french cleat...we'll see how that goes.

The next shot is of the injection pit for the downstairs plumbing that will shoot the sh$# up to the septic tank on the upper level where the septic field lives. Next is a series of shots of the new window glass, they start out small and work up to the big guys. The casements were heavier than the two picture windows...and a lot of cussing was going on until they were situated. Ending pictures shows some of the windows in place - what a huge difference to see the light coming in after months of darkness being closed in. Starting to take shape!!
