I picked up a middle buster last week to put in some 4" corragated drain. I was quite suprised at how well it worked for what I wanted it to do. I had to clear out the bottom with a square shovel but it cut a very nice trench. The soil is rocky and clay and as you can see from the picture it has been raining hard here for the last 4 days. The only thing I didn't like about how it was made is that I had my top link shortened all the way and the tip of the middle buster wasn't all that aggressive. If you want you can check out my other tractor pics of discing my garden etc on my web page.

I've seen that lots of people use the middlebusters for this job and it seems to really work well. Thanks for posting your pics. I always enjoy seeing how others use their tractors. John

A "middlebuster" search will reveal some creative uses for this tool. It and it's cousin "the subsoiler" have been the subject of several TBN threads. From your picture, it looks like your drain will have it's work cut out for it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Something like 7 inches of rain fell in this area in the last couple of days. If it keeps up I'll be putting in a 36 inch sluce pipe.

Was that a one pass operation or did it take more? Did you run with your tph all the way down or did it bog down with an aggressive draft? I have thought of using a middle buster prior to some disking that I do.

I actually made 2 passes with the buster. It didn't bog it a bit. I had the TPH all the way down but as in my other post I said the top link was a little long even at its shortest point to get an agressive bite. Also it only weighs around 90 pounds or so so that takes away from the bite. It is a great tool and my next project will be to bury some tubing with it. I feel it's a well worth attachment.

If the ground gets any more saturated I'll be able to build a big ark. The wind was blowing down some big trees, root balls and all because the ground is so wet. My Red Pines are dropping loke Dominoes.........

Glad you liked it. Bookmark it and check back. I try to update it frequently. Deer season will have new quad and deer pics and the tractor adventure continues weekly. Have a safe Memorial Day weekend to you and everyone......
