I squandered $20 on this one. It only sticks to steel, but I can work around that. :p

Was watching welding a video and caught a glance (long enough to realize what it was) at mig gun the has "trigger guard".... Since I always seem to lay gun down in a way the trigger get depressed and I waste wire (to lazy to drag it back on spool), anybody have a home grown or purchases solution....

I am open to ideas!....

You could experiment with using the plumbers metal/plastic roll of pipe hanger strapping and a couple of zip ties to fashion a cheap trigger guard?

And if you do not have a welding table, this is what I used years ago:

A couple of saw horses with a 4' x 4' piece of 3/4" OSB Board, and on top of that a 4' x 4' piece of 11 gauge hot rolled steel (black) (steel weighs about 80 lbs).

Hope this helps you,

KC

My "welding table" consist of a 30x30 inch square of cement board siding on saw horses.... Maybe make a MIG gun holder welded to a pair of useless HF vice grips so I can "clamp'(?) it on to side of table....

Been trying to talk myself into this for quite a while, still not convinced myself yet.... As it would have very limited use as welding table but more as a "general shop" table...

Those look nice, but $$$ too much for my wheel house.

You could get a piece of 3/16" plate 30" x 30" for about $25-$35 that weighs about 50 lbs. to set on top of your cement board.

And your grounding clamp could be connected directly to your metal table surface.

And you could use one of those magnetic mig gun holders.

Just a thought,

Your solution is pretty good, but I was thinking it would also be more of a general shop table (along with welding) that I can hoist the wife's rotary mower up on to work on and such, that is why table on wheels is more appealing to me.... Since I don't have dedicated "shop" I work out of 2 car garage that half is taken up by car "toy" so most of the stuff has to be sort of portable/mobile...

That route gets my vote also.

Those pre fab welding tables are seriously overpriced and gimmicky.

Then you should get your butt in gear, Dale.

I know you are more than capable to build one that suits your needs.
