Your solution is pretty good, but I was thinking it would also be more of a general shop table (along with welding) that I can hoist the wife's rotary mower up on to work on and such, that is why table on wheels is more appealing to me.... Since I don't have dedicated "shop" I work out of 2 car garage that half is taken up by car "toy" so most of the stuff has to be sort of portable/mobile...

Yes, I agree, all of my welding/storage/saw tables in the garage have locking wheels from HF, I just welded a 1/8" plate to bolt the wheels to.

Before I built my welding table, I used a couple of boltless storage tables with a 1/4" plate on top and added wheels.

These links are similar to what I used early on.

Speaking of welding tables... I looked at those fancy Certi Flat tables but the price scared me away. For my first welding table I salvaged a small tool chest, added casters, and tacked a 2' by 4' 1/2in steel plate on top. My second table was a badly rusted 4' by 8' steel table w/ a 1/4in steel top that I found at an auction. I bought a new 4' by 8' 1/4in sheet and laid it on top. Not perfectly flat but good enough for me.

Being such a big table and my lack of space, it needs to be multi-functional. I try to keep it from getting cluttered so I can quickly convert it from a welding table to other uses. I throw a 4x8 plywood sheet and use as an outfeed table for my tablesaw and also use it for a layout table. Recently I bought a 4x8 sheet of 1in rigid foam insulation and use it as sacrificial backing to cut plywood with my track saw.

Haven't dented or broken my HFT POC in four years. Am I doing something wrong?

I've been pleasantly surprised with my HFT POC table too. Maybe my expectations were low, but that little sucker is stable and has always performed well. It's nice to grab-n-go to outside projects too.

Here’s my Big Barn version of a HF welding table. 27”x20” built in 1964 with the biggest piece of scrap plate I could find.

I also looked at those high priced welding tables when I purchased my Miller 140 AutoSet Mig Welder, but for me I would not be using it enough for the cost.

My first welding table (many moons ago) was a used banking cabinet on wheels with 2 drawers and 2 doors, that I added a piece of 1/2" plate to the top that overhung 2" on all sides.

I also have built a few welding tables, but now I find it a lot easier to just add some wheels and a top plate to a boltless shelf unit:

Years ago I purchased a half dozen of these at Costco and have put 3" HF locking caster wheel on all of them, they are 36"L x 18"W x 36"H.

I have mounted a drill press, table belt sander, vise, cutoff saw, radial arm saw on some of them, and added 1/4" plate on top of 2 of them for welding.

My table saw is also on locking wheels, mounted it on top of a wooden platform.

My vertical band saw is also mounted on a piece of 3/16" plate with locking wheels.

I like your idea of the 1" rigid foam insulation for a backing, might do that as I am currently removing older interior doors and installing new interior slab doors for the honey do list.

Yeah, most everything in my shop is on swivel casters. I tore out the old kitchen cabinets and replaced them with large metal vertical cabinets w/doors allowing me to spot weld casters on them. Great for being able to clean and rearrange as strive to perfect an efficient layout.

The nice thing about the rigid foam is that it is very lightweight and you can easily toss it aside and store. Haven't decided but I might cut it in half and make a hanging shelf to store on the ceiling to get it completely out of the way when not in use.

At work we had Acorn tables or 3/4" topped weld tables and just made simple stands to hook the MIG torch on.

I bought a magnetic torch holder from harbor freight, was only like $10, it works pretty good. I also got that "poc" (lol) table from harbor freight as well, and gotta say I like it quite a bit, and for more than just welding. I use it as a little work bench, clamp my mower blades on there to sharpen them, that sort of thing. I like how I could fold it flat and lean it against a wall, out of the way.
