That does happen. The ones I bought off Amazon were new, unopened though. Sorry you got bit, but at least it was Amazon and easy to return.

What was the price, if I may ask?
$225

Man that sucks, I ran into that buying a DeWalt drill from Amazon. Sent me a used tool that was missing parts. Since then if I have to buy online I buy from a reputable site like Lowes, HD ect.
Looking at Amazon, the 14Z is $229. Home Depot has it for the same price, free shipping if needed.

Another place I have purchased Makita from is Tool Nut, and their price is also $229 w/ free shipping: XWT14Z 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 4-Speed 1/2" Sq. Drive Impact Wrench w/ Friction Ring Anvil, Tool Only

As well as Tractor Supply, but ship to store only: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/makita-18v-lxt-1-2-in-drive-impact-wrench-w-ring-xwt14z
I'm going to try to find one at an Amish shop first and if not, Home Depot it is. Amazon di*ks around on returns that are refunded to the credit card rather than a store credit so it could take a month (huh?) to credit my card.

More and more I find that stuff I thought I could get cheap at Amazon is almost the same price as local or big box stores plus I have free returns and I don't have to deal with merchandise repackaged and sent to me as new.
As well, the stuff I used to buy at Harbor Freight is almost the same price as Lowes or whatever plus free returns with no drama.

I have never had that problem with Amazon, I returned a pair of shoes the other day and I got the refund to my card as soon as UPS picked up the package to return it.

This happens all the time PROVIDED the order was fulfilled by Amazon. Refund made by Amazon as soon as the item is scanned in by the carrier.

This is when the seller is a third party that is selling though Amazon and the refund is processed by the third party seller.

It has always ticked me off that any seller (except Amazon) takes my money instantly but it takes 30 days to refund it. I can understand them waiting until they see the product is undamaged but to take 30 days after it has been received (tracking) is unreal.

I too have that M18 Fuel impact driver. It is great! A bit heavy but you can’t beat it for heavy work away from electricity and air. I keep one in my travel tool box for truck and 5th wheel trailer lugs. I only use it to loosen them. I’ll spin slowly on but tighten/torque by hand. Much quicker for roadside flat changes etc.

I am getting more and more leary of Amazon. They do crap like this all the time. Use to feel like you were getting deals on Amazon. Now seems like they are getting rid of open box items and returns more than new. It also costs the same as anywhere else usually, and you get some idiot delivery driver delivering at whee hours of the night in rural areas just begging to be shot.

I have had deliveries as late as midnight and as early as 4:30 am. I live down a mile long sand lane, with just a couple neighbors and we are the last property. If I hear a large truck pulling in the driveway at 4:30 am, my shotgun is coming out cocked and ready.

Major tool brands like Makita, Milwaukee, DeWalt, etc set the minimum prices they can be sold at, except for 'special deals' that one store or another can run once in awhile. Those are the 'see price in cart' sales. So if you find it for $229 at Amazon, chances are very high it'll be the same elsewhere unless one of those cart deals are running.

They usually do the refund as soon as they get the notification from UPS/FedEx you dropped it off. As said above though, if it was a 3rd Party, that timeline can go up. (It also helps to have a long standing account in good standing) However, for heavily scammed items, like Name Brand Power Tools, they will wait until they can verify that its actually in the box and not broken/swapped. Once they receive it, it should go fast.
