Nice barn.

What did you use for rafters?

Thank you! I didn't build rafters in this one. As for ceiling joists, I just used pressure treated 2x4's. It will never be load bearing, so I wasn't worried about using 2x6's. In retrospect, I should have used plywood as sub-roofing... but oh well. It'll last us many decades!

Sorry to hear of your restrictions, at least here if it is for AG use only, then no permit is required. I am sitting here laughing and shaking my head, you have frogs and we have Gopher Turtles. Trust me, I hear you.

If you read the labels you will see that a lot of them are cayenne pepper. And one would think they would work... I have a Haflinger gelding that goes around licking it off, then the mare chews. I ended up using drip edge like what you put on a roof. This is the same mare that backs up to a t-post and starts to bend it then turns around and steps on them till they are flat on the ground for no other reason than to show me she can. Haflingers are the "Jack Russells" of horse breeds, you either love them or hate them.

Mom had Haflingers growing up and she is over 80 now...

The 120 square foot rule is one of those things it is better safe than sorry... I know.

Nice, clean build!

Thanks ultrarunner!

I just finished framing the hay portion of it on Saturday, and moved on to reinforcing the insides of the stalls. We're going to order the metal soon for the roof and sides. I can't believe what tha charge for this stuff! $2.41 per linear foot. It's just insane.. Metal roofing used to be really cheap stuff.

That's a nice project! I had three Paso Fino's and a quarter horse mare 30 odd years ago. My two kids and my wife and I would ride and enjoy them. Only the two mares would do the cribbing thing. Back then, I could buy creosote in a gallon jug and mix it with used motor oil and brush it on. That stopped the cribbing as it probably did not taste too good...lol. :confused2:

+1 on the no-chew, it's like putting Tabasco on wings for a hot sauce lover.. I also hear ya on the Haflingers. My two push on the fence so much, I've had to add angled brace posts. The guy I talked to at Larsen Hay said to add a hot wire on the fence. He said they would learn to stay off the fence real quick, but I don't know if I'm comfortable with that.

BTW, I can ship you a dozen or so Gopher Turtles if your short...:turtle:

Thanks for the compliment! Yeah, my pop inlaw told me to put 90W on all the chew-able surfaces. I think that's the rout I'm going to take. It would cost a whole lot less than angle iron!

The stalls are 10'Wx12'D with a 16" space inbetween,

What is the 16" space for? Are you putting a wall between the stalls? I found that all five of my horses get into the same 12x12 stall together. I think they like being all squished up tight to each other.
