I did that to avoid having to get a permit with final inspection. In my county, you're only aloud 120sq ft building for a horse shelter, without a permit. So I made two next to each other with the space between to add square footage. I'm just not going to add a wall to divide them, and only join them with the metal roofing material. The lean-to will be considered AG, and doesn't need a permit. For some horse hating reason, horses aren't considered AG in my county.

Not trying to be picky, but you may want to put boards on the interior so a horse can not kick the metal siding.
Metal siding and horses really do not mix. A friends horse got bored and put it's leg through 2 weeks before High School Rodeo finals, the horse is now a lawn ordainment. The poor girl was a senior and made National finals Rodeo on Poles and barrels, and had to drop out.

Ha ha! You're not the first person to say that. I started cladding the inside a few days ago with 7/8" plywood (had it on hand and should be plenty strong). The area that what I had didn't cover, will be 2x12's or 2x10's, whatever works out to be the cheapest. I have a good method for keeping them from cribbing on all this too.

As for the girl and the horse... that's a huge bummer. Totally unfortunate. I hope they both recover from this in short time!

Got the horses in the barn! The way I ran the hot wire is temporary, as fence will be changing a lot in the next few months. Anyway, this made my beautiful wife VERY happy!!

Congratulations. When I built mine, the previous owners of the horses said that they would never use the barn. They prefer to be out in the open when it rains. But now that they have a place to stay dry when it's raining, they use it all the time. For whatever reason, sometimes they will all take off running from out in the pasture to the barn and just run right into the stall and stand there with their heads all together in the corner. Every night my wife feeds them a scoop of sweet feed, so it's become their happy place. They are always there waiting for here every evening.

My brother's horses have a good sized area to roam... close to the house.

At first they were skiddish and now can't wait so greet me... even if a couple of weeks have gone by... they love apples and I always have one... even if I have to cut a single apple into small pieces...

Showed him your thread and he is working on something similar and hopes to have it done soon...

Ha ha, yes they are funny creatures! Our mare has always been funny about barns. When we feed, she'll take a big grip of hay, and make loops out of the barn, and into the barn through the other entrance, finish that bite, and do the same over and over until she's out of hay. She's the heard boss, so it might be a her method of looking out for danger. The young gelding doesn't want to leave the stalls, but feels like he has to follow his mom, so he'll follow her around the pasture all the while looking at the barn the whole time, wishing he was still there.

Now that they know they're fed in the barn, they head that direction as soon as they see one of us. Ha ha

I know it's not related to my barn, but I just finished building our goat shed (6x6x5.5 high). I put it on skids, so I can drag it around with the tractor as needed. Once we get back from vacation in two weeks, I'll finish the barn. I got the roofing done on the hay side, and am just waiting on the siding. After that, I'll be building the permanent goat pen. The projects never end.. Ha ha. I thank the Lord I enjoy this stuff!

Other than some odds and ends, I have it just about finished! It'll fit around 80 small bales. I ran out of screws for the siding, and want to build a door for the side entrance, but I'm pretty thrilled with the outcome for today. I'm also really impressed with the solar lighting. It beats the cost and labor of running electricity out there.

Just as a side note: This only cost us $2800 to build. Building materials are really expensive, but if you shop around, this can be done on the cheap! The horses and my wife are very happy!

Well, your shed made me start on one for our horses, mine is 12x24 inside wit a 16x 27 roof. I am also splitting the fence line between 2 pastures with a movable gate depending on which pasture they are in

We are just starting ours, hope to finish by the end of the month

Just a few finishing touches: Built a door for the side entrance, and added 2x6's on the bottoms of the stalls. I spooked our gelding walking into the hay side while he was eating, he freaked out, fell on his side and got his leg stuck under the 7" gap on the bottom of the wall. It screwed up his leg pretty bad. We're very lucky he didn't break it. He seems to be recovering pretty good now, thank the Lord!!
