Great forum. Learn so much just lurking. Maybe this should be over in the Land Clearing section, but I got 25 to 40 acres of woodland to thin and in which to create/maintain dirt roads and generally dispose of heavy brush. For that and other farm chores (not commercial), I'm considering buying two pieces of equipment, a 90hp class CTL and a 6 ton Mini Ex. I decided to go with a mulching head for one or the other. I was all set on mulching with a pressurized CTL but started thinking about using the Mini Ex instead. The land has a fair number of hard rocks (granite and marble) of varying size which concerns me regarding head maintenance and teeth issues, steering me now towards the Ex as it would appear to give you better visibility and top-down control of the work. The CTL, on the other hand, would seem to be more efficient, get into narrower spaces and use a less expensive mulching head. I also question whether a 6 ton mini is really heavy enough to mulch with. What say you guys?
