pulling a vacuum and sustaining a vacuum serve different purposes... however, the process of both yields important information about the conditions within your system. Also, a high pressure test is just as importation as a low pressure test... You can't exert (test) the forces of "normal" operating conditions on the piping network by only performing a low pressure test.

Manufactures will explicitly specify the micron level to which they require to achieve their warranty requirements.

If I were to pull a vacuum . I would hope I could sustain it......If I can't.. Well......

I have a Mini Split and have been very pleased with it.

One note of caution, there are no "do overs" with Mini spilts. They come filled from the factory and should not (i.e. voids your warranty) be recharged in the field.

And how would the factory ever know this ?

In certain circumstances, it's possible to pull a vacuum in an open loop (leaking/unsealed) environment... As long as the pump is running, a vacuum level could be achieved and sustained. However, when the pump is shut off the vacuum may not necessarily persist. That's what I was intending to clarify with my previous comment.., and that's why there are "standing time" evaluation measures when performing hi/low pressure testing of refrigerant piping networks.

Also, I've worked with and been around "vacuums" that weigh hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds... so there are some out there that you might not actually be able to "pull"
