Minimum Amps for Air Arc Gouging

I wouldn't want to do gouging with a TIG machine for fear it would affect the arc for TIG welding. I had Square Wave TIG 255 and they didn't recommend gouging with it. I've never used one but my teacher in school said an oxy/acet. gouging tip will do a really nice job and is better than an air arc in some applications. I could believe that and the fact there's no carbon to clean up if you have to weld over the gouge.

Yes not enough air at home. It works fine with the smaller rods. This picture is with a 3/16-inch rod, that is the biggest I have on hand. I haven't tried it with the new 7 1/2-HP, 25.8 CFM compressor. When using my old 5-HP compressor and the Trailblazer 55D, I had plenty of power, but not enough air. I could only use about a 2 to 3-inch stickout. On the job we always seem to have at least 185 compressors, you could run 5 or 6-inch stickout with that much air.
