Mirrors

OK,

Thanks to Mark in NH for his ideas on rear view mirrors. I promised I'd post some pics so here goes. I revised my setup a bit but the idea was basically the same as Marks. Using galvanized pipe to make little brackets, paint it, hang the mirrors, and off we go. Only one knuckle torn up. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I went with the 5" mirrors instead of the 6" (that's all I could find and I hate waiting).

I had fun with this and they work well. Vibration is minimal except for on more bumpy ground.

All I can say is Excellent job !!!!!!
I like the 2 individual mountings over the long cross rail that I used. Yours has a much cleaner look to it. The two pipe brackets that you bolted to the canopy are rather interesting looking. Are they a standard hardware store item ?
I am actually going to modify mine so as to tie the forward lights and mirrors together on the same mounting system.

Thanks much for your help here - the brackets that I mounted on the inside of the canopy were just put there to give more support to the canopy. They are the same as the ones that are used to actually hold the bracket on the front. I couldn't find any stand-off brackets like you used. I had to improvise so I thought this might be the simplest way since the matching brackets on the front had holes in the exact same spot......

Good thinking of using your nice long bracket for adding more lights. Didn't think of that.

Sorry I forgot to answer your question about the pipe brackets. Yes they are very much standard at hardware stores in my area. I've used the same type of setup to build handrails for the stairs to my kids treehouse.

There's nothing better than one person coming up with an idea and then another person taking it to the next level.

As I said before, Your individual mountings are superior to my cross rail idea. I think !! They look cleaner, and more of an OEM style design. I Like It !! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As of this afternoon, I have completly removed my mirrors and mounting brackets. My forward facing lights have arrived and I have been doing some initial playing / assembly, on just how to mount them and how I Want to mount them.
I have had the mounting brackets made for several days and need to do some fine tuning.
I am not sure just yet if I am ready to post pictures of them, but stay tuned to my Auxiliary Light Project thread for an update.

I saw your auxiliary light project thread. Very cool. I can't wait to see what you do with the front. I really enjoy tinkering around with these kinds of things and many of the things that the TBN'ers have come up with are really great. I wish I had a welder and the know how because I can think of quite a few things to make.

I just looked through the Auxiliary Light thread. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I like it. It's funny because form the pictures I can't even tell that your old mounting brackets were there. Did you run a separate wire directly to the battery for these lights? I had an extra harness available for my rear worklights but I figured if I ever added any more front lights I'd have to run a separate wire and switch.

I have completely removed all the old mirror mounting parts. I will have to seal the 3 holes with short stainless bolts and ruber washers.
I have yet to run any wiring. Am waiting for flasher and switch box to arrive. And yes, I will run a hot lead (fused) direct from the battery to the switch box. I have calculated my light load and am comfortably and safely under the alternater max.
