I ended up buying a "OEM" part on Ebay. Very pricy. The seller wrote a Toro part # on a factory Mitsubishi tag. It has a part number that I never found in my search for a cross over part - K6516-441 this appears to be the Mitsubishi part number for a K3D thermostat. Many generic options under this number. I cannot find a connection/cross over, to the Toro part #. Which seems a little concerning even though it mics out. I did find a connection to a Case IH 245 part # MD001370. One of three superseded Part numbers under the OEM Case part number. I checked all but that one. A $60 mistake. Hopefully this information will help someone in the future.

A thermostat will help warm up an engine to proper temps but contribute nothing to actually cool it down.

Lack of or missing thermostat will provide the maximum cooling possibility.
Since over heat is your problem you need to look elsewhere: rad fins, rad blockage, pinched hoses, (maybe timing) over lean mixture etc.
