Mix rate for TSC 2-4-D

Had You noticed this is an old post and I wasn't looking for a seminar just some figures to make a decision about buying a sprayer.

That being said I already took the plunge and bought a sprayer to suit My uses.I certainly have enough caution in My character to investigate time and again before I use any product.
And I regularly talk to the County Extension Agent .

I wondered about that. Primarily I spray 24D and that is why I got the license in the first place becasue I needed it to purchase it at the farm store here. At the same time I could go buy 24D in diluted forms at home depot. I just figured it had something to do with the concentration. I don't know. But I do know you need a lics to buy it here in texas if you are wanting the 2.5 gals of the good stuff, but you can buy diluted forms at home depot, tsc, etc. I have noticed the same thing with Atrazine. I can buy a small diluted bottle at home depot, but for the full strength 2.5 gal I need the lics. Maybe Texas is just wierd on this.

and I still don't know which mix rate is correct...I went with 1oz per gallon, which as I recall is what I figured when I calibrated my sprayer last year...need to write this stuff down..

I think someone else already posted the concentration facts; but just to restate this: it is always the measure of "active ingredient per area" that counts.

The "actual math" is often measured in lbs/acre, then using lb/gallon you calculate the tank mix; but assuming we're talking about 2,4-D: "4lb"/gallon [often 3.8] is pretty common for amine [not ester] and will read about 47%active ingredients[not chemical equivalant]. 1-2 quarts / acre of 4lb should treat you fine for pastures, lawns, etc.

If your 2,4-D amine is less than 47% active ingredients, just divide 46% by your label's % and multiply the result by your desired application [i.e. 1qt/acre].

The same math applies to 2,4-D ester or any chemical, but the numbers will be different. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

For tough weeds (some thistles, etc) using an adjuvant, ("soap") as suggested earlier, really helps. Else [often both], I like to add a pint/acre of Tordon, but you will need a RUP permit for that one.

( Just for an update the tips on the trailer sprayer that I bought are the TP8002 visiflo..I think I am going to change them as the operate at a minimum of 40 psi )
You sure about this ? I have the TSC ATV sprayer with the 80º flat fan spray pattern (TP8002) and they will operate at 20 psi. I recently picked up a set of TP8004 tips because I'm spraying the lawn with Gordons TriMec and the coverage rate is listed as 4 gallons of solution/1000 square foot.

With the TP8002 tips on the 7 nozzle boom and running as slow as I could go I was only getting about 1.6 to 1.8 gallons/1000 square foot @ 30 psi - the TP8004 tips should double that and will flow about 2.45 gpm @ 30 psi, which is still well within the rated output of my pump (3.5+ gpm)

( One thing I didn't see mentioned is sticker-spreader. It really helps the chemical do it's job. One cheap one is nonionic dish soap. Joy is what I use. It causes the water to lose surface tension and puts a sceen on the plant instead of beading, enabling better chemical contact with the plant. )

You are absolutely correct after I looked a second time in the catalog. I was wrong in that statement.

It does show usage rates with 30 psi. the TP8004 tips show .35 gallon per minutes for each nozzle at 30 psi which is 2.45gpm .

I went to the Turbo Teejet nozzle with the QJ300 check valve nozzle bodies.

They show operating down to 15 psi, My thinking was it has greater output but less drift. For Example on the TT11005(I ordered this tip) delivers .31 gpm @ 15psi.

I maybe all wet on this but it seemed to me on the tp8002 there just was not a high enough gpm at lower pressures.
