Only matters when you sell it. I buy brand new as well so I don't get someone else's mess. Though I am still driving my pickup I bought new in the fall of 1990 so I have not seen a beating from it yet. Though I have had great luck with it and only replaced wear items. As soon as I sell a vehicle I will let you know how the beating goes. (some of us who buy new keep vehicles measured by multiple decades, not years.)

I do both. I buy the wife's vehicles new and mine used and keep most all for many years.

My newest powered machine is my riding mower and its 9 years old (I'm about to replace the OE drive belt), the motorhome is 2000, the Windstar is 2000, the Massey-Ferguson is 2003 and the BMW R1150GS is 2001.

Saw on a pickup related forum where someone sent in a sample of the new M1 Annual product for a virgin oil sample test. The oil really seems to be a big yawn in comparison to many other M1 products and other brands on the market. Seems to bolster the impression that the annual thing XOM is promoting is just a marketing thing and a way to pump up price on a product they already have. I did a snapshot of the VOA that poster put on the forum and you can see for yourself.

I don't sell vehicles. I run them until maintenance is costing to much then donate and get a tax deduction.

I thought as much when I started this thread. Almost 20,000 miles on T6 was easy. But advertisers are always coming up with new things. "Instant Water" just add H20.

Exactly what I thought when I saw it in the store no way is it that much better to command that price

That is interesting. I would think there are other extended interval oils on the market right now that would come close to that?

I noticed that TBN starts out with only 8. I don't believe It has enough TBN to make it 20K miles.
I bet you'll find the TBN around 3 -4 (if lucky) when checked at 10-15K miles

I go 20,000 between oil changes, but do a oil filter change at 10,000. Run Amsoil 15w40 and have been doing this for the last 12 years on every truck we have owned, Chevy, Ford and now Dodges, all diesels. Run between 300,000 and 500,000 miles on every engine before we trade out vehicles. Never had an engine problem due to oil.

Your 10K filter change is likely unnecessary unless you have had a particle analysis and distribution done to support the early filter change.

A TBN of 3-4 at 10K miles means you have more life left in the oil.
