Believe it or not, if you were a Chevron, Shell, Mobil, Exxon, or any other major oil authorized distributor---one who carries the entire line of lubricants and spends 100's of thousands per year doing business with them---that same distributor could probably go to Sam's or wal-Mart and buy the jugs or quarts of motor oil of that company brand for less than he can buy it from the oil compnay when the stuff comes in with a 50,000 pound order and load. I worked once for a Texaco distributor, he complained to texaco that his costs for quarts of Havoline were higher than he could just get it at Wal-Mart. He was told "You place an order for 5 rail road cars of Havoline in quarts, and we will work you up a good price". But I have not seen Delvac 1300 for 10 bucks in quite awhile.
My better half's father is also a oil distributor. Only thing I get from him is grease sometimes and WWF in 55 gallon jugs.
He worked for Shell for many many years and now works for TrueBlood Oil. He sells to many of my friends and like said above they could go get it at WalMart for less money many times. One owns a oil change place and he does get about 1/2 his product at local outlets. Main thing with him is convenience.
