If you want to use Mobil One, buy Mobil Truck & SUV. It is just relabeled Mobil Delvac.

If logging, do you mean you'll start the tractor pretty much once, then run it hard all day? If so, 15-40 is prob. OK in your climate. If you'll be starting it more often after letting it cool, get anything synthetic at 5w40. Most wear occurs on startup.

I have an 86 Porsche 911. I've been using Amsoil 10W40 since I got it 3 years ago, except this summer. I ran out of time to change oil last fall, so changed it in May when I fired her up, but couldn't justify the cost of a case of synthetic only to change it again this fall. Therefore, I bought 20w50 Castrol GTX. I sure notice the difference in how quickly the oil pressure builds after a cold start. Porsche recommends a variety of oil weights in dino oil for this year, including 20w50. I'd never use this thick an oil again. It'll be Amsoil 10w40 in a few days. I've been using Mobil 1 5w30 or 0w30 in my Expedition at a quick lube this year (time issues again) with good performance.

Thanks guys. I did look at the JD Syn. It was a blend, not a true syn. and cost $120 for a 5 gal. bucket, and...it was not available in 15-40.

JD says their 0w40 oil is a pure synthetic. And that its made from synthetic base stocks. I don't think that is a blend.

Later,
Dan

JerryG. - If you check the Mobil website you will find the Mobil 1 Truck and Suv is not the same as Mobil Delvac. Completly different oils with different specifications.

I dunno:confused: ....I looked at a 5 gal bucket at the JD dealership, and it said it was a blend. The parts guy agreed that it was, and that was all they had for syn. oil.

If that is right show me the page. Up until a few months ago (3-4), they had both spec sheets up on their site and they were the exact same.

When Mobil showed the spec, I copied them to excel. I thought that I had lost them, but here they are if I can post them. I don't know if Excel can be posted or not. Well so much for that. I will try posting a picture of it. I don't know what is wrong.
I have a meeting before noon and work to do this afternoon. Tonight I will post this silly thing IF I can get it to work.

From the mobil website.

Mobil 1 Truck and SUV and basic description. Note that they state in bold red "Note: This product is not recommended for diesel engines. Use new Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 for diesel engines." Also note that this oil is only API rated for SM, SL,SJ,EC,CF,CD. This oil is found in their automotive car/truck section of their website.

Mobil Delvac conventional is API rated CI-4 Plus/CI-4/CH-4/CG-4/CF-4/CF/SL/SJ Mobil Delvac synthetic is API rated CI-4 PLUS/CI-4/CH-4/CG-4/CF-4/CF/SL/SJ. Note both of these oils also meet Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit, Ford, Global and JASO diesel spec's. These oils are found in their commercial/industrial engine oil section of their website.

I knew that there was some changes talked about a while back. The Mobil One Truck and SUV 5-40 was the same as Delvac when I copied both specs off of the site. I have 5 gallons of the 5-40 synthetic that says it is CI-4. That is the oil spec that I copied off of the Mobil site that showed it as the exact same spec as Delvac synthetic. It looks like if you have the 5-30 you have a light duty oil and if you have the 5-40 you have Delvac. More games to mess with people.

Come on now. You didn't expect them to leave it the same for more than a month did you? That would be to easy on us. :)

I checked the specs on the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W/40 and it looks like it has the same spec's as the Delvac synthetic. So they must have renamed the original Truck and SUV oil to Turbo Diesel Truck and made a new formulation for the Truck and SUV.

Don't worry. By the time you figure out what they changed it will be different next month.
