Mobile loafing shed

It's not a very good idea at all to put horses in a metal barn, shed, or anything in their kicking range. I've heard this story too many times to count that it's just two or one no reason to put wood in.

I think it was the picture I saw that did it for me...nasty /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I understand he's worried about weight but the wood can be removed easily before transporting and then reattached. All you need is a few 4' x 8' sheets of 3/4" plywood like they use in the trailers. Unless the horses are real destructive it's cheap insurance and the shed also won't get all dented up from them leaning on the sides. I have T-111 on mine (from prior owner) and other than one hoof dent it's fine.

You using the wife's SUV to move that barn reminds me of the time I borrowed my wife's Grand Cherokee LTD one Saturday morning. I had borrowed a 2wd pickup to move my camper but the truck couldn't move the camper up the hill in the damp grass without spinning the tires - just like Lucy. I brought the Jeep down the hill, chained the Jeep to the pickup that was attached to the 24 ft camper. Shifted the pickup to neutral and pulled this wagon train up a hill on wet grass! Impressed the heck out of me. We've had a Jeep ever since.

Same thing happened to me. I made fun of my wife's new Mercury Mountaineer that she got. I got my 4wd diesel pickup stuck and couldn't get out down over the hill. I didn't think it had a prayer but I hooked a tow rope up to the Mountaineer and it pulled me right out. I was pretty impressed with that little thing. It was AWD and in the winter she could just book down the road. My truck, even in 4wd was all over the road.

Cowboydoc, you hit on the one (and only) problem with a diesel, the engine weight. Four wheel drive is great, but the weight of the diesel engine sinks the front end quick on soft ground. I've towed my neighbors powerstroke out 3 times with my old gas Chevy. (I'm not starting a Chevy vs. Ford war, and I'd take a new diesel over a new gas anyday.)

You sure won't get any arguments from me! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The worst vehicle that I've ever had for getting stuck was a seventy nine chevy van. That puppy would sink the front end and the rear wheels would just spin, for any old reason. Lucy's next worst.

I thought my problem wouldn't be as bad with her because she came with traction Michelins. The same bed was on a 97 3500HD and it'd get stuck but.....nothing like Lucy.

Before the 97 I had a 69 short C30 Chevy with a big cam, headers, intake, carb, and lots of attitude. She got four miles per gallon. But I could pull off into the gumbo and slop dragging a gooseneck. Put the pedal to the metal in third and watch the speedometer hit seventy, 4:88 gears, and she'd start crawling out. Plain old 7.50 sixteen mud and snow on the duals. She was worth the price of admission just for the audio. The sound of a screaming small block having fun is probably the neatest sound in the whole world. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Bravada is our first normal four wheel drive. I can't praise it enough. It's got zip and it hooks'em in the corners. Little body lean, but heck, that's to tickle the grin button. Sometimes you have to get just the right angle to dangle for the grin button to work it's best.

I got back into town last night and bud is talking about two by'ing the interior and putting in a dividing wall so he can feed inside the shed. We'll do a photo how to if there's interest.

We finished out the shed a couple of weeks ago. Today was the first chance I had to take some pictures.

Bud's got a deal working on eight acres about twenty miles from where the shed is now. If if goes through some Sunday morning early we'll winch that puppy on to my trailer and haul it to it's new home.
