I personally find a 9mm to be much more pleasant to shoot VS a 45 in the same frame gun. You can reduce the loads some, but you can't reduce them very much and still cycle a stock auto. I have experimented with 90 grain 9mm bullets, but if loaded fast enough to cycle I found the 115 grains to have less felt recoil. Always use a reloading manual. More so in rifles especially the cartridges designed for black powder, but undercharging can be dangerous.

Well said. 9mm definetly has a sharp crack to it with felt recoil although much less than a .40 or 10mm For the OP a 9mm belive it or not the 9mm uses as much or more powder as a 45 when loading to simalar velocities as store bought ammo. ~5 grains of powder 9mm is a compresessed load in every powder ive used. The powder goes almost all the way to neck of the case. Its pretty much impossible to double charge a 9mm you cant fit it in the case. 45 however could easily be double charged. Which would cause problems Loading data Caliber Starting load Max. Bullet weight 9mm 4.7 grains 5.1 115 grain 45. 4.2 not a typo 5.3. 230 9mm ~ 1100 ft/sec. 45 800ft sec I have target loads in 45 that chronograph at 600 -630 ft / second. They will not cycle on a stock recoil spring
Interesting. I've never delved into the science but those numbers I would not have guessed. Thanks for sharing.

There are some 9mm platforms out there that LE and military favored over the narrow 1911 frame. Hi-Power, Beretta, CZ are the most widespread--and all have reasonable generic equivalents. I do like the heft, ease of serviceability and feel of the full sized 1911 frame, but if I were looking to get into 9mm I'd look hard at the CZ75, P92 (or Taurus), and Browning. Lots of rounds through those platforms.

I have a Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec stainless model - great firearm. Very accurate, has never had any type of failure. Highly Recommend.
I also have a Para Pro Custom 2011, 9mm - another great performer, even more accurate than the Springfield. Would not recommend buying a Para though, as Remington now owns the brand and has abandoned it.
Second the comment about a CZ-75 - I have a CZ-85, excellent feel and soft shooter.

But, I would not hesitate to buy the Springfield RO 9mm - you will be very satisfied.

Not a reloader just shoot factory ammo.Like the less felt recoil with my 9mm verses my 45 cal.plus the 9mm ammo is 30% cheaper verses 45 cal.I looked/held the following 1911,s in 9mm this morning Kimber,Colt,Ruger,S&W,Desert eagle and springfield armory again.Still leaning towards the springfield at this point.

Out of those choices (and being aware of what I'd want to spend), I would go with the Springfield. Good value, well constructed. Not an out of the box pistol, but refinements and improvements can be later if needed and as budget (and any improved accuracy desires) become known

Not sure if they still come this way but it's one of my favorite packages...
Excellent case, holster and mag holder.

I like the stainless finish look as a change up... especially since my other pistols are all black
