Monkey Wards 8Hp 5Spd rear tine

I picked up a dinosaur Wards rear tine with a Briggs 8hp, Model #190402.
Long story short it's been sitting in a garage for many years, lucky me there is no spark, I cleaned the points, flywheel and coil, still nothing, so my questions are
1, What are my affordable options? it's in decent shape needing tires and what ever to get it running
2, Is there a solid state ignition available?
3, Will a Predator 8Hp be a direct replacement?
4, Would 8Hp snowblower engine be an alternative with a change of flywheel shroud?

Did you clean the carb? Coils do go bad sitting around.

Monkey Ward's still around? I have an MW refrigerator from the '80s.

OP, there are replacement coils on Amazon and eBay for $15-20. Most are electronic. I put one on my dad's 5 horse vertical shaft tiller that wouldn't hold time due to a keyway issue. It starts better than new. You'll have to confirm the part #.

The lights are on the headache rack of my truck, I volunteer my time/gas to escort farmers for safety
The lower part shows the handles of the tiller, I said they were crappy but the best I have at the moment

I bet if you have a local small engine shop that has been around awhile, they would be familiar with that engine and have some ideas.

That very same B&S engine is in my front tine Sears 1976 rototiller. I still use it a couple time per season.....and it sets outside with a wash bucket over the engine. Starts right up every time with some fresh gasoline in the bowl/ tank. It is one great piece of equipment with lots of hours on it.

Make sure the coil is not grounding out before you start throwing parts at it.

Check the magnet in the flywheel to insure it is still good. Use a screw driver and insure the magnet grabs the screw driver. Use sand paper to clean the magnet area. Don’t get to abrasive with the sand paper you want to clean not polish. Then install the electronic ignition. Take the plug out and spin the engine by hand passing the magnet under the electronic ignition while holding the spark plug wire you should get a slight jolt.

Reinstall the engine shroud containing the pull rope after determining the rope is not rotten and will break the second time you pull on it.
