The first genetically modified food on the market was a yeast produced chymosin that replaced rennet in cheese making in 1990. The Flavr Savr tomato went on the market in 1994. In 1995, Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Potato was approved for cultivation, making it the first pesticide producing food crop to be approved in the US, canola with modified oil composition, Bt maize, glyphosate-tolerant soybeans, virus-resistant squash, and another delayed ripening tomato.
If you have eaten a fast food french fry in the last 20 years, you have eaten GMO spuds, fried in GMO vegetable oil, and the cheese on the cheeseburger was made with a GMO rennet replacement. Say what you will about a Big Mac Meal Deal, but the GMO ingredients didn't make it any less healthy than it was to begin with.
