And he could have. But then I would not have as much need of my tractor, and he would not have cleared as much of the land.

He did EXACTLY what I asked, and I am well pleased.

Around here they take out old orchards (olive, almond, English walnut)
They are mulching walnut! Geez, would think you could sell that for furniture or if not big enough, bowls, utensils, artwork.

The first four put my "Dee Dee Bee" in a better light, but still show how HUGE Frankenstein is.
Hey, your rig looks mighty fine next to the big boy! Of course, now you don't need it since they did all the work. You can send it to me ;)

I need to remove 4 or 5 balck walnut trees. I wish I could sell them to somebody. I suspect they will be firewood...

OH NO! I still need my tractor, I'm not done...

Besides, you'd need to take the payment book also...

Be well,
David

More pictures of During and AFTER they were done.

I don't have before picsfor much of this because I did not think they would make it that far!

Enjoy! These pictures do NOT do it justice, it was amazing what they accomplished.

In the last 8 minutes, I had a spot that is ALWAYS wet, standing water. I had been building a pile of debris, trying to "fill it in" for weeks. I asked Mark to just make his last pass or to over the 4' high pile of brush, stumps, slash, and dirt. 8 minutes later I can't even find the wet spot. It is GONE...

David

I accidentally included a pic of SLHawkins and the load of hay he donated to my pasture development. I also included a very fresh LARGE fox hole I found. I "watered" it and then I stuffed the holes full of stumps and slash. That Fox wanted my chickens! The hole was just 10' off the edge of the "Pasture"

If those trees are in ANY decent shape and size, cut them, save them and post on Craig's list or somewhere. There HAVE to be some wood workers who would sell their first born for good black walnut. (Might be willing to sell the first born anyway ;) )

Some of the finest OLD furniture is made from black walnut and there aren't a lot around any more which is why you don't find black walnut furniture MADE any more. I have a marble topped dresser and foot board (circa 1870) and a full living room set (sofa, arm chair and 5 armless chairs) pre 1860. They are all hand carved and beautiful. They came through my mother's father's family.

If'n we weren't so far apart, I'd take a serious look and I don't even have time to do anything with it AND no place to put it at the moment. I would HATE to see a beautiful hardwood tossed in the stove!!!!

Yeah, well we don't even have the farm yet, hopefully mid Nov. And then there is the issue of sales tax. If I get myself a business plan and start a 'for real' farm, I can avoid the tax. No time to do that this year.
Still working on the "how do I clear all the snow without buying something too expensive" problem.

No , I was happy with the results overall but I was disappointed too...in my case the mulcher left some long slices of trees behind...maybe only 1 inch thick but long slabs that were pressed down into the grass, and many of the chips are still there and I hit them with my bushog...I guess in time they will compost but until then it is like hearing marbles clanking at times when I am bush hogging.

Sounds like an underpowered machine or a tushhogg type mulcher. While mulching can leave some bigger shreds, the bigger machines using a good mulching head have enough power to regrind everything to fine pieces as they go. There is also a difference in the hardwoods versus softwoods in the "chunky" factor of the leftovers.
