I have one and the answer is probably not too well. They will clog with debris as well and if (when) you hit a stump or a snag they may bend the bar and that is expensive to replace (voice of experience). I use them as a pasture and runway drag as they work well for that.

Dan,

I figured that would be the case... Hence I have not borrowed it.

I am reluctant to borrow anything actually for all those reasons.

Thanks,
David

Moss,
Glad to hear you got Mark out there working. I am sure you are happy to have it to a managable level. I can not wait to see the springtime pics of the pastues when you get some grass on it. A good does of Nitrogen may help you with some of the rot down of the chips as well. I know a good bit is still around in my rough fields 18 months later.

Mark was awesome! As soon as I can afford it I'm thinking a 1/2 day of hitting the heaviest debris logging trails will be an amazing improvement for me.

I would enjoy renting one of the smaller sized units for a long weekend also as an alternative...

I visited your blog a bit today also. Looking exciting!

Be well,
David

Lime will definitely be needed where the oaks and walnuts were, probably in the neighborhood of 2 tons per acre. Check southern states or the farm coop for a fertilizer / lime service. It's cheaper for me to have it delivered and spread vs. purchase.
If you can find someone hauling chicken litter, that stuff is great starter fertilizer, very high in nitrogen. Mushroom soil hauled out of Pa. is a very good all around fertilizer for pasture management.

Job looks good...I too, like Robbie, have met Mark and Candy a few times..they are great people and do great work...Robbie and I are both former "Mulchers" who were working with a manufacturer when we first met the Lotscapes crew and now both of us have moved on to other things but still are left with positive opinions of these folks!

If those trees are in ANY decent shape and size, cut them, save them and post on Craig's list or somewhere. There HAVE to be some wood workers who would sell their first born for good black walnut. (Might be willing to sell the first born anyway ;) )

Don't cut them until you know what you are doing. Fresh cut logs will weather check and quickly become worthless. If you have to cut them, keep them wet until you seal the end grain with several coats of shellac.
