Bruce,
Is yours also a Lienbach?

I was told today that I should look for an auger that has a "sucking" blade so it pulls itself into the ground. So at this point I think I am looking for a auger that has a screw like tip so it centers on the ground and does not wander, one that has replacable teeth on the leading edge of the blades and "sucking" blades. Does that seem reasonable?
Thanks,
Mark

Yes, mine is a Leinbach. It has a replaceable tip that consists of a pair of bolt-on blades with a tip welded in the middle. The tip is nothing more that 3/16" flat stock cut as a triangle. In my case, the ledge bent the blades back and broke off the tip. I will be looking for a replacement that has the screw-type starter. It also has better blades with teeth.

As for the 'sucking' auger.... I've never heard of that term. Although my auger does pull itself into the ground. I lift the arms to control the speed of it's decent.

Mark:

I have a Greenline mfg. PHD with a 9" x 42" auger. I bought from Northern Tool and paid $565.00 delivered to my door. It came filled with gear oil too. Just put it together and start digging. I couldn't be happier with the way it performs for me. G
