More weight for my disc harrow

Guys, disk harrows have axles and they can be overloaded and bent.

Old railroad ties work good too. They are heavy and can be added or removed as needed plus cheaper than steel. Just use a couple ratchet straps to hold them on.

I use 2 rr ties cut in half, makes them easier to move and they work good in tamp clay.:flag-airforce:

Railroad steel laid across and centered between the two gangs would work for you. I would put one in front of the top link brace and one behind it (based on the link photo of your disc).

Greg - AH - I will be the first to admit the "blob" does not sit flat on the disk harrow. It backs up against the cross beam in the back and rides up that support member you mentioned. I've used it in this fashion several times and never had the "blob" fall off. I suppose I could have made some sort of allowance for the middle support when I poured the concrete. However - it probably would have compromised the strength of the "blob" itself.

Hey - this is not rocket science and even though pulling that disk may make me look like the Beverly Hillbillies - there is nobody within miles watching. And the overriding factor - - it works real well. I would not want to go beyond this much weight either - the disk is only a light weight class 1 implement.

Thanks for the explanation oosik. I now can visualize it, but it sure wouldn't work for me. I never have any luck getting anything to stay in place if it isn't flat down and strapped. I am going to try searching for some railroad ties like Gary Fowler shows. Those I could mount and strap to stay in place. I doubt I'll be able to find any around here though. I don't often use my disk anyhow, but would like to have more weight on it for when I do use it. Thanks. Greg
