Moron Parks in Front of Fire Hydrant

It might also be pertinent to add here, that there is a legal tenet called "Trespass of necessity"...which basically means that firefighters may legally do what ever it takes to tackle a fire, even if they run over your flower bed, newly seeded lawn or break the windows out of your illegally parked car.

Aquamoose
I have to agree with industrial on this one. Setting outrigger on car is not safe procedure.
Many firefighters are in for the adrenaline rush and will do crazy amounts of damage

Thing is, that truck could have moved back two feet and dropped the outrigger behind the car. Would have made no difference at all to their scene operations. May have been similar for the suction line, but I don't see enough pictures to see if they could have gone over the trunk lid or not. Seriously, some of these guys do stuff for less than valid reasons.

Im surprised there arent multiple oullets to choose from on a hydrant.

Why restrict choice of output direction? :confused2:

^^ Most have at least two.

Maybe some form of cost cutting move by the local bean counters?

Fire lines are different sizes for different flow rates, in out area most have two 2-1/2" & one 4" outlets, newer hydrants usually have 5'-6" outlets depending on the water line size. Which on is used depends on the flow rate needed. Even a 4" will not flow enough for most aerial apparatus!

Seems like there are plenty of opinions here from those who know very little about firefighting!

As for the outrigger on the car, probably a staged photo!

I must be too much of a conformist. Don't park in front of the hydrant, and this won't happen to you. It's just as simple as that. Rules are made to be broken, but only if you're prepared to pay for the consequences. I doubt that the owner of the burning building is one of the people complaining.

Exactly. Been driving many years. Never felt entitled to park in front of a hydrant. If it is an elderly driver who can't tell the difference between a hydrant and a rose bush, bad luck, still do not get a free pass.

That was kinda what I was thinking. I bet the offender won't park in front of a hydrant again.

What if it was YOUR house that was on fire, including valuables that can't be replaced, and there is no water because your neighbor parked in front of the hydrant. Some people here thinks there is plenty of time for the firemen to walk around to tell people to move their cars. By now, your house is now a big pile of ash.
