The driver is lucky that they did not use the "jaws" to remove the rear doors. From what I understand that hose needs to be horizontal/totally unrestricted at the hydrant.

I have absolutely no sympathy for that moron. I hope the owner/operator gets the maximum fines.

Stupid is as stupid does?

Would it not have been easier to put the hose under the car? And still have it ticketed?

Maybe it was someones eighty something year old Mom.

Probably but they’ll remember this lesson for life not to mention fireman like smashing things. I’m not sure why age or gender is important here...

I thought I was one of the few hard azzes on here. It wouldn't be different to you, if it was some ninteen year old punk or someones elderly mother with poor eyesight? I saw that in a movie or TV series once. I don't see were it's legal or moral to destroy someones property, unnecessarily to "teach them a lesson" that is what the ticket and tow is for.

Would you feel differently if it was your 80 year olds mothers house on fire down the road and the car was preventing them from delaying them from putting it out? I’m sure if they said right after the tow truck arrives in half an hour we can put out this fire, that would have made you feel better. If she had poor eyesight she shouldn’t have been driving at all. And the replacement cost of 2 windows is probably cheaper than a tow truck and a ticket at a taxi to the tow truck lot.

From what I see in the picture, there was no reason for it. Besides, from what I see nowadays, the FD is never in much of a hurry when they get on site. Probably have an hour long SAFETY meeting first.

And yeah, my Mother shouldn't be driving, but YOU can tell her that.

Do an image search for 'fire hose car window' and you'll find several from across the country going back over the years. Also found this one:

That's just retarded! But then, those guys usually aren't hired for their brains. That wouldn't even be safe for the purposes the outrigger is intended for.

If you had read the fire dept post, you would see that they cannot run it under the car, it needs to be fairly straight out of the hydrant.

I understand the problem we’re dealing with the same situation but there really should be more strict requirements for maintaining a license. Just on a local scale there’s dozens of wreaks caused by people that shouldn’t be driving. Just recently an old man hit a crossing guard at a school and not long before that a woman drive through a building killing a woman inside. And not to single out old people. There’s plenty of young people that can’t drive either. If they enforced a real driving school not the bull crap blatant money grab one they have now I’d gladly pay my money and agree with the cause. Whats the real difference between fines and a tow bill vs two broken windows? And no I don’t think exceptions should be made for parking violations. If it wasn’t dangerous or some other good reason it shouldn’t be illegal to start with and if it was it’s still a problem regardless of who the driver is.

That is a pretty outrageous statement

It is a little off topic, but some years ago I had to make a business call in Cambridge, MA. Not finding a legal parking spot, I decided to put public safety ahead of public convenience and be the second car in a bus stop rather than block a fire hydrant. When I returned I found I had been duly ticketed. To my chagrin, the price list on the back of the ticket showed the price for blocking a fire hydrant was half the cost of blocking a bus stop.

That might hold true South of the border but certainly not in Texas. For each Texas firefighter(and afaik, other states) you show me that is convicted of a felony , fired for dereliction of duty or spoken of by their neighbor as you have spoken,I'll show you 3 from your profession. Now,tell us your chosen profession and what make's you hold them out as more intelligent and moral than firefighters.

Screwing around with a blocked hydrant for an extra 60sec might mean losing a structure. I always kept the closest hydrant to the house clear of snow too. If we all take the time to make a difference in a positive way, we would ALL be better off.
