Mosquito traps & MAD DEER DISEASE

Can you explain what it didn't do that makes it worthless? Did it not attract and trap any mosquitos? Only a few? Or did in not rid the entire area of mosquitos?

I have heard it said that these traps attract and trap only the bred, egg-laying mosqitos, and every one that is trapped represents a few thousand future mosquitos that also represent an exponential number of future mosquitos. That there isn't an immediate decrease in the population, but a noticeable decrease after a two - three week period, and a more noticeable decrease over a longer period of time. I only have heard this, but have also heard that an outdoor players theatre has had excellent success reducing the mosquito population with such traps. I do not know if the Coleman version from Target is the same as what I have been hearing about.

That reminds me of the skeeters in Germany. Same coloring and much larger than the ones here in Missouri. When they bit you, you knew it.

The first year I was in Germany I didn't know about them. The Germans don't generally have air conditioning in their houses and don't use screens on the windows. They have shutters instead.

We put my oldest to bed (one at the time) and opened the window to let some cool air in. Had the shutters down but there is still plenty of room for flying insects to get in.

About an hour later my son started crying and I went in to see what the problem was. There were hundreds of mosquitoes in the room and he was covered with bites. It looked like one of those commercials on TV where a man sticks his arm in a box with mosquitoes.

I grabbed him and got him out of that room then had to go back in to spray insect killer. Took me about an hour to finally clear the house of mosquitoes.

Will they work on 'New Hampshire's state bird', the black fly?

Yes, The Mosquito Magnet works well for the Black Fly. I bought a Mosquito Magnet this spring and was amazed by the number of Black Flys it captured.

Where does one get -permethrin-. I have read posts about it but have never seen it.

Gempler's has a permetherin spray.

bky,

I think you are seeing the Asian Tiger squeeter. They are
what I have around my place. From what I have read they
are taking over from the native bugs. They are aggressive.

My little girl seems to attract bugs and has bites all over her
regardless of the spray we put on her. But I guess that is
part of growing up. I remember my legs and arms being
covered with squeeter bites.... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

These Squeeter traps do have me curious. I think my
squeeter problem is because of the neighbors. They have
4 inch corrigated pipe running from their downspouts. I just
read that these things are really bad from a mosquito breeding
perspective. I have been trying for years to figure out where
the bugs come from and thats the best explanation I can
find.....

Later...
Dan
