I never worked on 47's but have many hours on UH-1's. I work with a guy that crewed them though . truly a machine that just should not fly!
Now i work on much faster and higher flying birds. hawker's!
they are a nightmare to work on some times. i don't think i would complain about helicopters if i were to go back to them.

Here's a thought...
Take a T-1500 engine (if I recall the model # correctly ) out of a UH-1 and strap it into a RTV. All the power you would ever want and you probably could get it to go faster than 25 MPH.

Hey bczoom army designation was T53-L13. yeah 1400 shaft horsepower would really pump up a RTV huh! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I wish i knew the site but i saw a bunch of guys that were putting allison 250's in go carts! you know the engines out of OH-58's or jet rangers as some folks call them. they would get up and GOOO!
I believe the newer 250-C47 series pump out alot more than the old military C-18 and 20's did.
I will have see if i can find that site and link it . it was pretty funny! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
oh and i saw a guy that made motorcycles with them also . he was from somewhere in louisiana. it was on american hotrodder this weekend.

I was wrong on my guess of T-1500 for the engine model #.
I worked on the UH-1N.
According to this link, we were running larger engines.

Ahhhh... Can you define "in" for me?
I can't find the specs on the PT6T-3B engine (the 1800 HP version) but if I recall the size correctly, I think you may need to "alter" the cargo box area.
But then again, with 1800 HP under your belt (or arse as it really may be /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif), I'd consider some other changes as well. I think a windshield would be a must. Winds may reach 3-400 mph in the cab area. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

bczoom remember that engine is a twin pack. two engines joined by a mixing box.
Now they make single PT 6's that can range from 500 to 2000+ SHP.
But if one was to install one in a RTV i still think the little allison 250's would be the ticket. much lighter and compact and can produce alot of power for it's size.
The problem would be low end torque .
Now maybe a little PW JT 15 for thrust power for speed? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
we could rig something i just don't know if we could get enough fuel onboard to go far but it would fun while it lasted. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
