Dieselpower,

On a small PT 422/425 if you would drain the tank and clean it, replace the filter and end up with nine gallons of UTF and one gallon of the motor oil is this acceptable or will problems occur.

That shouldn't be a problem Clarke. Oils readily mix with each other. It's next to near impossible to get all of your old oil out without doing a flush cycle. Think about it this way, you will have a 9 to 1 mix ratio or be getting 90% of the benefit of the UTF and a very diluted motor oil.

I have been with you the whole way on this thread but you lost me here. :) SAE-32? Did you by chance mean ISO 32? If you did, a ISO 32 is equivalent to a SAE 10 weight engine oil. The approximate equivalence between ISO (a industrial viscosity rating) and SAE (vehicle viscosity rating used with engine oils) goes like this.

SAE----------ISO
5------------ 22
10-----------32
15-----------46
20-----------68
30-----------100
40-----------150
50-----------220

I am just passing on what was told to me.

DieselPower, I try not to get to deep into some things . All I really want to know, what is the best synthetic single weight hydraulic oil for me here in Florida.
Since you work for a company that sells UTF and such, you should know what to recommend. Most of us are just operators, and want the best for our machines.

You may have missed this one J.J.

I’m also really glad this came up while I still had low hours on my PT. I’m certainly no expert on hydraulics or oils, but it seems to just make good sense to put a hydraulic fluid in a hydraulic system if for nothing else the anti cavitation additives.

J.J. maybe I am looking at this the wrong way, but does the SAE-32 that you say equates to a straight 40-W put any expanded or additional pressure on hoses or seals when you first start the PT at warm up, in low temps like 5-degrees or lower?

Could this do any damage at this short of an interval, or is this a non factor? Quickly looked at Diesel’s Web Site, the UTF Red looks pretty good with the additives and multi viscosity features. I also like the Red Dye, for leak observation. Not trying to put you on the spot, or endorse any products here, but do you care to comment on the UTF Red? If not thats fine. ;)

On the question of starting up an engine with a single weight in the system, in the winter, I would not recommend it. In order to use a good single weight in your system, the machine would have to be kept in a warm building at around 50 degrees. I am not a cold weather expert, but I have read and talked to people who live in those climates. Even the snow plows that are used are kept in heated buildings. There are many ways to maintain a machine at a certain temp. If this is done, you will not have to go to extreme limits in order to use your machine as you want.

I just don't know about this.My reply did not go where it was supposed to go. It got transferred into the quote.

No sweat J.J. like you said, we are all just operators and need to make up our own minds. You and a few others on here really know your hydraulics, so I really value your opinion on subjects like this one. I will do some more research on fluids but it sounds like Mr. Diesel Power has a product worth considering.
