Did he do that by buying a really BIG tail pipe extender? I've heard you can add a lot of HP by doing that.

Here is the current "worlds fastest diesel".

http://www.lucasoil.com/articles/2008,1.html

Running 7.98 et and 167 MPH in the 1/4 with a diesel is pretty strong! Also, according to DHRA (diesel hot rod association), 5 of the 6 diesel drag racing division champions are running Cummins diesels.

You know, Toyota isn't even mentioned in any diesel drag or pull records. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Being that most of the people on this board own an oil burner, I don't think Toyota would be the "Truck of the Year" on TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm not sure what he did other then to change the "chip", intercooler, turbocharger and knowing him, drilling holes in everything.

The problem I have with all the magazine truck of the year tests, are the requirements they list to qualify. It mush have significant improvements or design changes to qualify. They only test light duty trucks and their dependence on sponsers may affect the outcome of their tests.

I would prefer they test every truck in the class they are competeing with regardless of the latest improvements. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's better than the compition.

Was suppose to be out in 04 then pushed back, Now sometime in 05 but in limited production to guage interest.

RaT -- That's how I ended up buying a Chevy Silverado, my first ever GM product. I'd been staying away from them because Consumer Reports has nothing good to say about GM, but it was used, and a deal, so I bought it.

All I can say is WOW! This truck is so big and tough and reliable, plus the most fun to drive of any vehicle I've ever owned, all I can say is I wish I'd bought one years ago! I had a little Toyota truck and then a Mazda years ago, and recently a Dodge Dakota, but all of them fell short when it came to really hard work like hauling firewood, pulling logs, bringing in the winter hay supply.

And best of all, that big 5.3L gets better mileage than the little six banger in the Dodge! Truck of the Year? Bah! Truck of the Year is the truck that fits you and your lifestyle.

Toyota vs Dodge. hmmmm Quality alone is not even in the same ballpark.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Hmmm, which explains why my 1957 Dodge truck is still going like gangbusters... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

( in Europe there are many small diesel powered pick-ups and passenger cars that are not offered for sale in this country )

Randy, a number of them were available in this country 20-25 years ago. I suppose they disappeared for several reasons; EPA regulations, Consumer Reports negative information, etc. We had an '82 Isuzu I-Mark diesel sedan, my Dad had a little Chevy pickup with the Isuzu diesel, a friend had an Isuzu diesel, and while I don't remember for sure, I think Toyota and Nissan had small pickups available with diesel engines. And while Consumer Reports didn't like them, I never knew an owner who didn't.

Bird, Toyota did have a nice little diesel in their pickup. I beleive it was in the early 80's. I've seen a few as well as the Nissan. California was pretty restrictive on many of these diesels, even the 1/2 ton GMC's that had the 6.2L diesels were not available here for long. The problem was tons of folks living in LA and tons in the Bay area and California was not meeting the Federal EPA rules for clean air. In order to continue to receive Federal funding, we had to comply but the federal requirements were not going to make that happen. CARB is set up and has new restrictions and rules on sizes, fuel additives, smog testing etc. Folks have complained about CARB (California Air Resources Board) some of it deservedly so. I for one am quite happy with the much greater air quality improvements. There is no question that Southern California and LA in particular have noticed pretty dramatic reductions in smog even though they still may well have some of the smogiest air. Dallas is a close second. The North East has the greatest NO2 concentrations.
