Motorola Talkabout handheld radios for the farm.

I have a pair of the talkabout radios and use them all the time. They work ok for my needs of up to a mile or so. They may work further but that is about the limit of my needs. I took them on a cruise and surprising enough they actually worked well between decks on the ship. I have the remote speaker/mic and clip it to my jacket collar, makes it easier to hear over the roar of the mighty BX while out plowing/blowing snow. They come in handy I can have the wife open the garage doors on command :thumbsup:. I can wander off to the neighbors and the wife can track me down if needed and if I get into trouble or stuck with the tractor etc. its easier than dialing the cellphone. Don't have to grab my glasses to dial any numbers just push the button and talk.

We use the Talkabouts and as mentioned, a mile is tops; very handy or us.

Yes. I have it on my phone but haven't used it yet as I can't seem to get into the right screen.

If you have a newer type cell phone check out zello.com. Zello is a "CB" app for your phone and it's free. Many people seem to like it as there have been 50 million downloads. If anyone here has it maybe you could tell us more?

I don't know if you can talk without cell service but they are cell phones. Good question. Check out the zello site for more info.

I HAD :banghead:Nextel that was fantastic for this. Don't know why they shut it down. The "new" ptt's just don't cut it.

No. Requires SOME network access. Wifi, cellular, etc.

Negative, they will not work without infastructure.. Connections are made thru their servers. You would have to have a data plan on your phone.
