Make sure your pulleys are in alignment and parallel with each other. The sheeve is adjustable for in and out movement.

Something is not right, my Mott fine cut is still using the belt (non kevlar) I put on when I cleaned and painted it in 2020 and it still looks almost new. You may have a bearing going out, sheaves out of alignment or weak spring on the tension idler but it should definitely not be going though belts that fast.
