/ Mount chain saw on loader for limb trimming #21
I got this idea to mount my chainsaw on the side of my loader so I can reach up and trim limbs with it. Anybody ever hear of such a thing or see it tried (aside from the obvious safety concerns).
I got so far as modifying my 40v Ryobi saw for remote control, but never got it mounted. I think the mount needs to be flexible enough that you don't put too much weight on the saw.

I installed a small relay and power jack in the saw so applying 12v from an external source makes it run (full speed). Doesn't prevent normal operation of the saw. I planned to mount it using the bar studs.

Edit: now that i have 3rd function figured out, I'd really like smokeydog's arrangement.

Unless someone is prepared to lose a sacrificial cordless pole saw as a test, I'm not sure it's even practical to mount one to a FEL. Maybe if you hinged the power head and then controlled the fall into the cut with a rope?

I have my Limb Hog on my 5090 with PR transmission and it works quite nicely. For me, the camera mounted on the saw boom is a game changer. I fabbed a mount to go on the end of my forks which gives me 4 more feet of reach. I want to make something that I can mount on the end of the forks and has about 4 more feet of vertical. I disagree about the limb saw being a farmer's tool. This thing is great for anyone that has trees to trim.

Someone is going to read your post and weld up some armor to protect their arms.
To have made a difference is reward enough for me.

My intention was to mount my chain saw to my pallet fork and rig a handheld throttle cable to the trigger.

I did something similar. I used a hydraulic motor and chain/bar. This is run to my aux hydraulics. Works good for small jobs. Could use it longer at a time but I don't have a chain oiler on it and have to oil it after a few cuts. But works great.

I don't know if my JD2032r has got enough hydraulic power to run a hydraulic saw. Besides, it would be out of my budget.

BTW, my wife doesn't know about any of this.
Atta Boy, we all do great things when we aren't Supervised.

Milwaukee cordless pole saw is only $300. I keep my 1/4 mile lane trimmed at 14' to get my motorhome in and out. Can't imagine having a need to go much higher than that. They sell extensions if you would need to. I cut 4" stuff with it with no problems. It's nice and light. And no worrying about something falling on my tractor. Only drawback is I'm not in my nice air conditioned cab when doing it.

I made one a few years ago. Used a hydraulic motor as a power source and the same bar and chain as my Stihl chainsaw. Works great.
