Just pick up some "real" magnets and they will not fall off. Heck, I think these things will even warp space & time! :D

Hi Greg:
Most photo programs have a stitch feature. I use ArcSoft Photo Studio which came with my camera.

A really good free photo program is Irfanview available at IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide It has a panoramic picture option to allow you to stack any number of pix horizontally or vertically.

Radio Shack used to have 12 volt cigar lighter type outlets with cover/plugs to keep out water and debris when not in use. Harbor Freight (Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices) has magnetic grounding thingies about as cheap as can be found. The magnetic welding grounds are a terrific idea as they have a threaded stud already attached. I'll bet those magnets will hold a rear view mirror too.

Re: Slightly off topic

I rigged up a similar thing years ago from magnets removed from old, broken stereo speakers, el-chepo trailer lights, and self tapping screws; worked great! had about 3 bucks each invested.

Another source of strong magnets are junk microwave ovens.
You have to disassemble the magnetron to get them.
Just be sure the capacitors are discharged before touching the connections inside.
There is also usually a small blower or fan that is useful for other projects around the shop.

I have a set of store bought towing lights on a long cord with a trailer tow type plug. They are magnetically attached and hold well on all sorts of highways but they do shift around when towing in Baja and the going gets truly tough.

Not having really good magnets instantly available for an upgtrade I just welded little pads for them to rest on and be constrained in their freedom of movement but still rely on the simple on and off magnetic attachment. Of course the roll cage around the (rear) engine offered suitable locations (not unlikek a ROPS.)

Up here we have a choice of 200amp ground magnets at $7 or 500amp units at $15 thru Princess Auto. Are the 200amp units large enough or should we go for the larger ones? Which ones does Harbor Freight sell?

Well since the current rating is for actual welding use and you are only interested in the magnetic action and they didn't give Gauss ratings for the magnets to allow a meaningful comparison , I guess you would have to manually compare the holding power and decide which sticks well enough in your opinion to hold a light under shock and vibration on your tractor.

Well the 200 jobs weigh 1/2lb and the 500 amp jobs weigh over twice as much so I was hoping to get away with the lighter, cheaper units but if they are falling off I will go for the bigger units. Just wanted to know which ones Harbour Freight is selling....

It is likely that the HF units are not an exact match to any of the units you may see at a welding supply house. The heavier amp rating may or may not come with a stronger magnet as it is not the magnetism they are rating.

HF also sells lots of strong magnets. If you go to HF in person or on the web, look at some of those. You will have to supply your own attachment method, u-bolts or bolts and wood scraps to make a clamp/holder or whatever. There isn't anything "MAGIC" about the welding magnets, they just have a threaded stud sticking out that simplifies attaching a light. If you can figure out how to attach one of the other magnets you might get a stronger magnet for fewer bucks.
